My son has allergies to dust mites so we just moved to a place with hardwood floors. Our plan was to put down foam mats to soften the falls he inevitably will have and to save our downstairs neighbors sanity but I just learned of the foam mat recall in Europe and am now hesistant to use any foam mats even if hte manufacturers say its formahide-free. But what other options do I have?? My son has already slipped and fallen numerous times while running and its a big OUCH b/c the floors are so hard. Please give me any suggestions you have on hypoallergenic floor coverings. Thank you!!

What can I do next?

My youngest was 2 when we moved into our home it's all hardwood except the tile bathroom. He runs from one end to the other barefoot and rarely falls during the winter we get the slippers from children's place that have a sole on the bottom not just little grips. Take his socks off he'll be fine the falls on wood generally sound worse then they are.

make sure he is not wearing socks on the HWs. And stress to him that he needs to WALK NOT RUN so he won't fall and hurt himself.

Your neighbors will understand that you have a child and noise will happen. I applaud you for being concerned about them. That's really nice.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my hardwood floors!! It is SOOO much easier to care for than carpets and makes my allergies better!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Tatami.

It is a Japanese floor covering. Made of "Igusa" rush.
Look it up online.
It is also a green product.
Very good.
We have that in our home in one of our rooms.
My kids love it. As do we.

Now, it is not plush and all soft. Like a rug.
It is a firmer, floor covering.
But Japanese people, actually sleep on it.
It even helps people with back pain etc., allergies, and is very healthy.
It is sound absorbing as well.
It is hypoallergenic

Here is a link on it:

I highly recommend it.
It is very popular now... because of its health benefits, and being a green product.

Be aware, that there are cheaper versions... but these are inferior. It has to be made of "Igusa" rush.
