My husband graduated the sheriffs academy in December. And still has not been able to find a job the process takes like 3 months to apply and at the end they can say no. has anyone gone threw this. Hes getting frustrated and so am i. what makes it worse it that he has started working for a security company that is ran by ex-cops who got sick of the politics of being a cop. which scares me that my husband might start to think that way.

What can I do next?

Hi K.,

What you husband can do is look into working at the school districts or colleges and universities. At the school districts, they hire school police & they pay very well. If he were to apply at the universities and jr. colleges, he would be considered school police as well. Both places would pay your husband very well and since he's already gone to the academy, he'll probably be hired right on.

Many people don't consider the school districts or the colleges. Another thing you guys may want to think about is your credit score, finances, past work records...etc. The background check may play a factor in the delay of finding work.

Hope this helps...

Since I meet my husband four years ago he has been trying to become a firefighter. It takes so much time and money to travel and test with different places! A lot of companies, or cities require different backgrounds which makes it hard! I know how you feel, just try to be patient and realize that everything happens for a reason and he will end up in the best place for him! Most people test with ten or fifteen places before they get hired.

Hi Kimberly,
Just keep reminding him security work is temporary. Someone else mentioned school police, here the county has their own security too. He should see if he can get hired at the county or a large utility to get some benefits and then keep trying the PD. The county hospitals also use their own security. A lot of those places probably appreciate poice training since they deal so much with the general public.

If you guys are in Vegas, what about the casinos? I'm sure they would value someone with such great training.
