My husband just had a lap nissen procedure for a hiatal hernia. He is on a very soft diet and can't eat anything that would cause acid. He is so tired of pudding, yogurt, apple sauce & soft noodles. Does anyone have any ideas on food that will give him protein to make him feel full?

Thanks Mom's!!!

What about mac and cheese...I know that's noodles, but there are some yummy varities out there! Also maybe hummus with some soft pita bread would be filling and have protein. You could do mashed potatoes and cottage cheese too. Those three were what kept me going after I got my tonsils out last year. I could barely eat and the potatoes helped a lot! My other thing was tatziki sauce with pita bread.

My parents grew up in the old country- whenever I was recovering from anything, I was always given eggs. Even though I used to roll my eyes at the suggestion when I was a teen, I now find myself giving my children eggs too =D

Hope your husband feels better soon.

Hummus? Lentils, very soft cooked. (I'm assuming he can only eat soft foods?) Brown rice has decent protein And so does quinoa.

My husband was on a low gas diet for 8 weeks during radiation treatment. He has a very limited diet to start with so it was difficult (although he could swallow). His doctor said he could have low fat cheese in moderation so he was able to eat grilled cheese sandwiches and also he could eat lean ground beef (like Laura's Lean which is 4% fat). I don't know if your husband can handle swallowing burger. You could brown it, add some potatoes and a jar of gravy and make a little pot pie. Or add a can of mushroom soup and serve on toast. Fish is soft - if he's not a big fish eater, try something very mild like tilapia. Also, although he wasn't supposed to have eggs, the doctor again told us in moderation was ok. You should check with your husband's dr for suggestions - the nurse in our dr's office was very helpful with ideas and helping us better understand the parameters.

You are so right to know he needs protein! How about protein shakes? Beware of many popular store brands, though...many times the first 2 ingredients are corn syrup and sugar!
