Hurt Foot, What Could Be the Cause???

My foot has been bothering me for almost 3 weeks now. The spot is on the top of my foot just below my toes. It is a little swollen, very tender and hard to walk on. Doing certain things will cause it to have a quick sharp pain, like when I yawn or have a cold chill. I was wearing filp flop the day before the pain started and I first thought maybe something on the inside of my foot was bruised, but I would think the pain and discomfort would have gone away by now. Has anyone experienced this? Is this something I should go to the doctor about or just wait and see what happens.

What can I do next?

I've dealt with practically every foot problem... sounds like a Neuroma or a stress fracture. I've had both in opposite feet just above my toes. The stress fracture was on the top and the neuroma was on the bottom. Not much you can do for a stress fracture except ice, but the neuroma can be given a steriod/hydrocortisone shot (which hurts like ...) See a podiatrist.

You might want to see a Dr. and have it checked. My right foot did something like that about 2 months ago. Swollen, very tender, etc.

Turns out, I had a stress fracture and after wearing the removable cast about 4 weeks, it cleared up.

I see Dr. Crates at Plano Orthopedic (www.posmcc.com)

Dr. Crates is well known for being the best Dr. for below the knee. All of the Dr.s at the POSMC are fantastic.

Good luck

Sounds like a stress fracture to me, I work in the shoe business and we deal with injuries like this alot. For a stress fracture really the very best thing you can do for it is stay off of it, but I know that is hard. You can used ibuprofen to help reduce the inflammation, which also helps with the pain. Often an xray won't pick up the stress fracture, so there is not a lot a doctor can do. You might also get some cream called Traumeel, look it up first if you like, it is an anti-inflammatory homeopathic cream that works on a ton of different problems, including stress fractures and arthritis.

Hope this helps, good luck!

My sister-in-law had a very similar pain and it ended up being a problem with the nerve. It had a technical term, but I don't remember what. Eventually, the gave her a shot of something that killed the offending nerve and she doesn't have pain anymore.

Make sure you go see an actual podiatrist and not just a regular or orthopedic doctor. I was misdiagnosed by both before I went to see the podiatrist (Dr. Ashton) and he was great. He performed surgery and my foot was as good as new. The other doctors I saw first told me that there was nothing to be done.

It definitely sounds like a stress fracture. I would see an orthopedic doctor instead of a podiatrist, but mainly wear thick-soled shoes and try to rest it as much as possible. Kind of hard with little ones, I know!

The nerve damage referred to in a prior post is called a Morton's Neuroma; it is a growth on the nerve and it hurts. Mine came on very suddenly many years ago; felt like someone had stabbed a knife in between my toes. Podiatrist gave me shots that relieved the pain, but it kept coming back. Eventually I had to have surgery to remove the growth. But you could have some other problem, so I would go to an orthopedic as suggested above. Good Luck.

You might just make a visit to your regular doc or even call the nurse to question her.

With it being so sensitive for so long, and something that came on suddenly, it would be worth checking out though.

Good Luck!
