I am having my gallbladder out on monday. This is a blessing because I am so freaking hungry. Here is my question, I was told early this a week to keep a liquid diet. I then found out friday, I was for sure having surgery. They have me taking pain meds on top of each other so i there feel the pain in my gallblader. I normally cant eat wheat, soy or anything containing white sugar. My nutritionist said I could kind of drop the no wheat until after surgery, because they I am going to get sick regardless of what I eat at this point. So, one of the biggeest things i am craving is a sub from Jimmy johns, lettuce wrapped. I cant get ahold of my nutritionist this morning to see if it is ok for me to eat this since they are not letting me ''get into pain'' , so i turn to you guys to see what you think. Since I am sick from anything i get in me (liquid or not) what is the harm of me eating a sandwich??? I have a list of food i ant here once the surgery is over. I think i have battled the eating disorder part of my life. I just want food. I dont think i fully understood hunger until the food i loved was taken from me. From now on i have a new look at food. It is fuel. Also, I need to be thankful i have been given the resources to have food in my fridge and cupboards. I am seeing things from a whole different angle since this week has thrown me for some punches I never saw coming.

Tell me I can eat. Just to make me happy.
This is also an update since they keep knocking them off unless it is in the form of a question...I really do want to eat my sandwich though. Holy cow it is all i can talk about. Like it was my billion dollar lottery ticket and I won.

What can I do next?

The liquid diet is to ensure you don't cause your gallbaldder and other organs to work much. The liquid pretty much gets digested just by regular movement thru the GI tract whereas solids have MANY steps to take that include the gallbladder, liver and pancreas before the GI tract can take over.

You are almost there... keep up the hard work and you'll pass the finish line intact and happier for it!

No Honey,
With surgery schedule so close....NO, don't eat that sub from Jimmy's. There are multiple GI reasons for your prescribed diet prior to this type of surgery.

Stick to your soups and jellos and applesauce. And if you end up 'falling of the wagon' so to speak, please be honest with your Anesthesiologist before they put you under.

You're having major abdominal surgery. Don't mess with the protocol and yourself and the surgeons.

Hang in there....just a couple of days to go....

I know you're craving a sandwich, but I don't know if you should dive off the deep end and eat one.
If your surgery wasn't on Monday, I would say treat yourself and brace yourself for being sick after. It's a pattern you know pretty well. But, the thing is, you are having surgery. They can't take the risk of you having a bunch of indigested food in your body or even worse, be in the middle of a severe gall bladder attack because of something you ate.
Follow the diet they gave you. You mention liquid diet and I think it means they are also trying to control the consistency and texture of what you have.
Sometimes liquid diet means water and broth so it's hard to tell what exactly your doctors meant by "liquid".
Again, I wouldn't chance it even though I know you've thought of that sandwich to the point you can practically taste it.
Try to think positively.
After your surgery and you've healed up, you may be able to eat things you couldn't before and that could be a blessing you just have to be patient for.
My aunt suffered so many years and she felt like a new person after her gall bladder surgery.
That's what I'm hoping for you!
Hang in there.

I think lunch meat would aggregate your gall bladder. The bile in your gall bladder is released in order to digest lipids--and lunchmeat contains protein and lipid/fat in it.

i think it depends on what kind of liquid diet! did the doc say clear liquids only? if not, i'd go get the sammie and throw it in the blender with some sort of broth...chicken sammie, chicken broth, beef sammie, beef broth...and you've got a liquid sammie! when my son first got his braces he had to have a liquid diet and thats what we would do, just throw whatever we were having into the blender with some liquid. good luck!
