Hunger Games Question

.. Okay.. My daughter is totally obsessed with the Hunger Games trilogy. She's read the series and seen the first movie several times. She is up on all the previews, interviews, etc.. to do with Catching Fire. She's doing excellent in school and I decided to treat her and my other daughter to the movie Thursday night at 8 p.m. even though it's on a school night. Okay.. so, that being said, don't send me hate notes about letting my 10 and 14 yr. old see a 2 1/2 hr. movie on a school night... my decision, great kids, can handle the late night.

However, I haven't been able to get into the first movie! I have tried to watch it numerous times (fall asleep or get bored 30 mins. into it), tried to read the book, but just cannot get into it!!! Now I am taking them to the second movie in two nights and have no idea the details of the first movie. Can any of you PLEASE tell me a little more detail of the Hunger Games other than what my daughter and the t.v. talk shows share with me (the major points)? I don't want to be lost. Guess I'm just looking for the Cliff Notes version of the movie! :)

My girl is so excited for this night, and I don't want to be lost or bored out of my mind or disappoint her with lacklustre interest. I understand it's "epic" and going to be going down in the books as 2013's Return of the Jedi, etc....

Thanks for you help!!

I wouldn't worry about it. It's not so complicated that you can't follow along for the most part.
My 20 year old son MADE me go see The Hobbit with him last December. I am so NOT a fantasy fan, never read Lord of the Rings (which both my husband and son adore) but I was happy to go with him and endure it simply because he wanted me there (and he's still trying to convert me, after all these years LOL!)
Just go and enjoy. I'm sure you'll be entertained enough not to fall asleep. Have a big coffee beforehand if that helps!

Go to themoviespoiler.com and search the archives for it. This way you can read all about it.

I have very little interest is this series. I had very little interest in Twilight too. But once I read the books I actually wanted to see them. Once was enough....lol.

I think this attitude of mine comes from building up my expectations to go see Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone. I was extremely disappointed with the movie!

At the end, when we were standing up waiting for others to exit, we were reading a lot of the credits, and several other people were standing around too. We started hearing others say how disappointed they were. The books were just soooooooo much better.

So I've stayed away from seeing books made into movies on the big screen. I hope you can find the synopsis of the first Hunger Games movie so you'll have some background. I do enjoy reading the synopsis' instead of seeing some movies I'm not sure if I want to spend the money or not.

I love that you are treating her and her friends to this movie.. Way awesome, when a child is so in love with books!

Our daughter recommends these 2 links..

My daughter (18) loves Hunger Games. At her college, they signed up
If they wanted and they see the premiere tomorrow night. She's so excited, along with a huge group of friends!

Going backwards... She loved all if the Twilight series.

Yes, I was one of the moms (probably snoring) at the midnight premiere for 4-6 girls with another mom.

I read the books and just didn't get into them.

Now recently.... I've read Divergent and loved it, although a cliffhanger... The movie premieres in March. I'm on book 2 Insurgent now and LOVE this series my daughter hooked me on.

Best wishes... Enjoy your time while you can!!!yhey grow up and move out too fast!!

Let your daughters see that movie and go see something you'd enjoy. Meet them after. The 14 year old is definitely old enough to watch the 10 year old.

I haven't looked at the other sites people have recommended, but my "go to" for all things movie & TV is the internet movie data base (IMDB.com). My kids introduced me to it & I've found it a great resource.

You can type in the movie name into the search bar (or, for that matter, a TV show, actor, director, etc) & get quite a bit of info. Scroll way down (past cast info & such) & there are links for plot summary & plot synopsis. Here it is for The Hunger Games: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1392170/synopsis?ref_=ttpl_pl...

Imo, the books are great and the first movie was awful and did not at all portray the book well. But that's neither here nor there for people who love all things Hunger Games. Follow Gamma G's advice, and don't worry, you WILL understand the movie, it's very dumbed down if it's like the first one. Basically by the end of the first one, Katniss survived with the other District 13 guy Peeta and went back home.

I hate space but I put my mind to enjoying "Gravity" for a date....despite the inane dialogue....I enjoyed myself. Have fun!!!
