I currently have a Graco cool mist humidifier and I am getting tired of continually changing the filter so often. It is also very messy. Is there a humidifier which you would recommend? Thanks for your help. A.

I had the same problem with the Graco model and was so tired og buying filter after filter. I decided to buy an inexpensive one that I could clean easier and that did not have a filter. I bought two Vicks Warm Vaporizors and they work well for my 2 boys' rooms. They are so much easier to clean. Since it is warm mist the box states that it is 96% bacteria free steam.

We are in the business of home comfort. A whole house steam humidifier is a great product. It attaches to your furnace and injects steam into your air. The great thing about steam is it not only helps raise the humidity in your home but also helps stop the growth of mold and mildew unlike water vapor which actually encourages mold and mildew growth. I have a lot of literature explaining how both humidification and dehumidification works. If you would like to email me it I would be happy to email you a copy. Like with all products you get what you pay for. Honeywell makes a product called TruSteam. We have installed this product and the homeowners love it. You have to be careful however, when sizing the unit. It you have a large house (over 3000 sq ft)the TruSteam doesn't work as well. We have another product for larger homes. It is made by Nortec. Again if you would like any of the manufacture's literature please email me at ____@____.com and I will be happy to send it to you. I hope this helps.

I have the Germguardian one and love it. it does cool and warm mist. The warm mist isn't really that warm but I still use it in the winter. It is more expensive but worth it not to have to change the filters.

This is the one I have. It does have a blue light on it that is pretty bright so it acts like a nightlight too. I have one for both kids.

I have a rainbow that I absolutely love. If you don't want to get the actual rainbow they also have a rainmate that is fantastic for bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. I love these because they have no filters to clean/replace often. Just make sure it has plenty of water in it. You can also add essential oils to the water to help with any health issues.

There are some that are cleaner and have guarantees to inhibit microbes. They are more expensive -- but, I figure getting a cheap one and buying filters all the time is actually more in the long run.

If you do decide to stay with your regular ol' humidifier, never stop your changing the filter and washing the basin. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/humidifiers/hq00076

I can't recommend a humidifier but I can suggest that you start putting treatment in it when you do use it. (that's what I do) You can find it just about any where in the winter time when a humidifier is used or in the pharmacy area of walmart/kmart. It will help keep the scale, lime and other stuff from building up. You might also want to check with the manufacturer of yours and see how often it recomends you replace the filter. Again, something you should be able to buy at walmart/lowes when winter starts comeing again or online.

Good luck!!

We used an Air-O-Swiss humidifier this winter and were pleased with it. You can purchased them online or at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It has a filter that you have to soak 24 hours before using, but it lasted for 3 months. We cleaned the base about once a month with EZCal, which is relatively little maintenance. It's a little pricier up front, but well worth it. Can be cool or warm mist and constantly monitors the % of humidity in the room.
