My 6 month old just got over having the flu. He is back to himself except at night. I notice he starts coughing non stop right before he goes to sleep. He will take his last bottle and right after coughs non stop till he falls asleep. It's not a dry cough, sound congested. Once he is asleep he is fine. When he wakes for his 3am feeding it is the same I have to hold him till he falls asleep so he won't throw up! The funny thing is he does not cough at all during the day. Could this be an allergy or should I just use a humidifier, do these actually help?

It might be the milk. Milk is very thick, and it coats the throat. (In choir, we were not allowed to drink it during competitions for that very reason.) It could be that the milk, combined with whatever remnants of sinus drainage he has when lying down, is bothering his throat and making him cough. Try giving him a bit of water after the milk. If nothing else, water will help thin the mucus somewhat.

Try running a humidifier and elevating his crib mattress by putting a pillow or blanket under it. Hope this helps!

You should know your self that if you are having a sinus drainage that dairy products will not help. It should like this is the problem. At six months he should be sleeping through the night, mine did. If he wants something try water.See if that makes the differance.

Hi Gracie
Sounds like allergies to me.....he could be breathing and inhaling residue left in his bed clothes or bed linens causing the "congestion like" symptons try changing your laundry detergent/ softeners to something natural and organic without fillers. PM me and I can give you a list of good products.
good luck and blessings

I would definitely try the humidifier. They really make a difference for my kids when they have a cough. I love my Vicks cool mist humidifier. The one I have had the most success with has a blue plastic top. Good Luck!
