Humidifier Question - Watertown,MA

Hi all. I need a suggestion on a good humidifier. My 22 mos old DD has a post nasal drip from seasonal allergies and as soon as she lays down to sleep the cough starts. ARGH.

A warm mist humidifier works great, but it makes the walls sweat in her room, the mirror fog, etc, and I do not want the room to get moldy. A cool mist humidifier seems to do nothing! How can I get around this?

I took her to the DR and they said no medication - she is too young. But the poor thing has had trouble with her sleep due to her cough for weeks now.

Help!

Hello,

We have one by the American Red Cross. It is not too large and works very well. You have to order the filters through the mail but they are not expensive and there is a number to call in the leaflet that comes with the humidifier.

I hope she feels better soon!

My daughter used to have a terrible time with coughs at night - but hers was croupy so I'm not sure this will work for you. But we would get great relief by opening the window and letting the cold night air in. I'd have to PILE the blankets on her - literally a mountain of blankets - but it stopped the cough. Good luck! (Oh - and you might want to clarify with your doctor. I know mine told me no meds for the COUGH - it can actually make a young child stop breathing. However, I wonder if an allergy medicine to help with the post-nasal drip? Might want to ask if he also meant nothing for the allergies?)

I am not sure of the brand but they sell at Target and Babies R Us. They are animal shapes, like Frog, Cow and Pig. I add T36-C5 oil to it. It works great! For more info and where to get contact my email: ____@____.com or give me a call. ###-###-#### I love to help!
I have the From and no mold. It is a cold humidifier. Where are you from Watertown where?? Just curious!

Really?! Your ped won't even let her take benedryl so that she doesn't have to suffer. Our youngest has been on a small dose of zrytec dailly sine he was 10 months because of severe seasonal allergies. We have a vicks humidifier but we don't use it until the winter when the heats on. I usually just wipe down my walls since its generally only on at night in the boys room and during the day in the living room. I don't know anything about vaporizers but maybe one of them would help. Our ped always tells us to use a cool mist humidifier.

Hi! My daughther is going through the same thing. You have to get a cool mist and run it several hours before she goes to bed, also prop her if you can. I bought mine from CVS..works great!! Beware it lingers for a while.

Hi G.,

We use the cool mist humidifier that looks like a frog. It's got a humidity control knob so if you start getting moisture on the walls/windows/etc. you can just lower the humidity until you find the right level. This humidifier had the best reviews I could find on-line. Good luck!

Hi G.
Kudos to your Dr. For saying too youmg for meds.
Reliv Kids NOW will help the allergies. No meds-just balanced nutrition giving ur child what their body is lacking. I even take it for the DHA and fatty acids for mental clarity and focus! Vanilla or choc. Easy shake for kids to take. Love to share info with u.

I have tried many humidifiers. My son has had asthma & allergies since birth. The best one I've found is a Kaz, I put it right next to his bed on the floor. It's a cold mist, so no mold. It's very inexpensive at Target, about $20. The best thing about it is that it's dishwasher safe. There's no bleach or chemicals to clean it. I just stick it in the dishwasher. Other things that may help are the children's vicks on the chest, an open window in the winter & sleeping on an incline. I've had my son sleep in a recliner on really bad nights & when he was younger I would sleep on the recliner myself holding him upright. If she's still in a crib, they have the wedge that she can sleep on. Also steaming up the bathroom helps when it gets really bad. Good luck to you.
