I want to get rid of my huge cellulite post-baby tummy! It's been 1.5 years and I'm still huge in my tummy area, and it is pocked and pitted with cellulite. People still think I'm pregnant. My belly just won't go away. Any advice, this late in the game?

What can I do next?

have you explored belly dancing videos?

i LOVE deliliah, who demonstrates numerous tummy exercises, many of which can be done while sitting...watching tv, at the computer, driving, ect.

as an example, try sucking in all the muscles from the right side of the belly, let go and then try the left. it takes about 4,000 tries before you can sense a difference in one side or the other, but it is easy and non-sweaty to do...

You need to exercise to tighten those muscles back up. Walking or swimming are great exercises for tightening the tummy muscles. Go for a brisk walk every day (about a mile if you can). Put the baby in the stroller and head out. As for the ugly pock marks, I would try one of the over-the-counter skin-tightening creams. Good luck!

Check out Jillian Michaels books and her 30 day shred program. If you normally workout intensely you'll be fine. Other than that work in to it slowly. I lost 6 pounds last week because of her program.

Pilates is great because the main focus is "core" muscles which will tighten your belly as well as keep your back in good shape. There are a lot of classes out there as well as videos.

Since I see you live in El Sobrante, as do I, I highly recommend Hilltop YMCA. I loved going there for pilates and cardio workouts when I had the time. They are family friendly, have a great pool, ladies sauna, and aren't terribly expensive. I never felt self-conscious or pressured like I sometimes did at 24 Hour Fitness where a lot of "jocks" would go. You'll see people of all different ages and body types at the Y.

Hi M. - I agree that Pilates is a WONDERFUL way to get the abdominal area (and whole body) back in shape. Also, I have heard that Brook Burke has a website that she sells abdominal wraps on that are supposed to be helpful. I would also add that there are firming creams that can be helpful, but be sure to check the ingredients before using, and you can also check all of the personal care products you and your family use to be sure they do not contain toxic ingredients. You can visit www.findgreenhere.com (safe cosmetics page, cosmetics database link)to research. I cant wait to try Glimpse Intuitive Skin Care from XanGo, coming out next month for my skin and I will be putting a little on cellulite and stretch marks to see if it is affective, as well as face, neck chest and hands. http://www.xango.tv/ I wish you well and exercise is still a great way to improve the body after children! Be well, V. G. :o)

I sell the home galvanic spa unit by Nuskin enterprises, and it's fabulous! Many of my clients use it with a firming gel I make in my natural product line with excellent results for body shaping: minimizing cellulite and breaking down body fat. In my firming gel I use essential oils like geranium, grapefruit and chamomile, which are proven to reduce mid-tissue fat deposits. The galvanic works on a gentle electrical current (spas use a much stronger unit that can irritate the skin) to stimulate deep tissue firming.

Let me know if you are interested and I'll send you more information. The special package that I currently have in stock retails for $285 plus shipping and includes the hand-held unit, four treatment heads, a body shaping gel and eight facial treatment vials.

I used the unit to treat my 13-year-old tummy fat from a hysterectomy and my clients have used it for facial firming and body shaping with great results!

I went to accupuncture for a completely different reason and had the surprising side effect of losing that tummy. The Doctor (eastern medicine) said my body had never properly healed and my uterus hadn't shrunken back to normal. It costs, but I didn't have to DO anything and the pounds and the tummy just melted off. And, I feel great now that I am completely healed.

Hello M.,

I had a tummy pouch that was left over from giving birth to our 2nd son, 11 years ago. Like you I thought it would be a ugly part of me forever.

A wonderful new product was introduced, called "OsoLean" the first weekend of September by Mannatech. OsoLean is an exclusive proprietary peptide technology that supports the body in burning fat cells, while you keep your lean muscle. This new product comes in powder form.

So far, I have lost:

3 inches from my waist
2 inches from my hip

My family has noticed that I am smiling more. I am much happier with my body and this is an exciting adventure to see what happens with my shape each week.

This product will produce positive results, whether you change anything else in your life or not. To have an even greater impact on the results, these are recommended steps:

1) decrease calorie intake by 500, per day
2) exercise for 30 minutes, 3-4 days a week
3) drink lots of water, daily

Over time, you will begin to notice that you no longer can eat the quantity of food that you ate before.

There are success stories with this product, whether you are in your 20's or 70's.

If you wish to know more, or would like to place an order,
please check out this link:

The best savings is to select option 2, that provides you with a free bottle of glycoslim, which is a healthy meal replacement product. This is a one time offer at a cost of $109. It will cost you $100, for a monthly supply.

If you are willing to give this product a try, keep a measuring tape handy in your bathroom. Take it from me, you will find yourself using that 2-3 times a week.

Please contact me, if you would like more information. I wish you the best, M..

Thanks, L.

I've always had problems in the tummy area and after 3 kids it got worse. I love running and joined Team in Training and trained 5-6 days a week (running and cross training) for a 1/2 or full marathon and followed their nutrition education and meal plans for endurance athletes and found all the fat started to disappear. I've always run, but had to take it up a few notches followed by proper eating to get where I wanted to be. I am now starting my second season with Team in Training - Winter. I love the program and what they do.

It takes some work and dedication to really get rid of the fat, especially as you get older (it gets much more difficult).

HI M.,

I am not sure if this is loose skin you are talking about or just some abs that need tightening up. Your abs take a huge beating from being pregnant and then giving birth (even harder for c-section). If it's loose skin, then I believe only surgery will help that. If it is truly cellulite then you may need to alter your diet and exercise.

I teach Baby Boot Camp which is stroller fitness for moms. You bring your baby in a stroller and get a 55 minute gym quality work out. We do cardio, strength training, abs and stretching. All of my moms have seen a huge difference in their bodies in just the first few weeks! I currently offer classes in Yuba City and Plumas Lake. If these locations aren't near you, it is national franchise and offers many locations. Your first class is always FREE so you have nothing to lose. www.babybootcamp.com

Good luck,

J.

Wow, so much great information from everyone. I have three kids and I have had so much trouble in the tummy area as well. I actually trained and did a few sprint triathlons to try to get myself on a good exercise schedule then I found out I had Lyme disease and I couldn't do cardio exercise because of the crushing fatigue. Once I stopped exercising, my weight just kept going up especially in my tummy area. I have used products from Mannatech for the last 10 years and in October they came out with a product called Osolean. The technology and research sounds great, but you never know how it's going to translate to you. I have been on it for about a month and the first thing to go was my tummy. The best thing about the product is that it gets rid of the fat and retains your lean muscle mass. My weight has only gone down 5 pounds, but I've lost several inches around my waist. I actually bought a skirt in the smallest size I've ever worn as an adult....even before having children. Everyone I've talked to that is on it has lost first in the waist. Now I believe in a well rounded approach to health and I don't believe that taking a supplement is the only thing that's important. Exercise, eating right, supplementing what you can't get in your food, and good alkaline water is equally important. There is much you can do to correct imbalances in your body and the benefit is overall wellness. ____@____.com

The only way to reduce cellulite (well, there are some expensive creams that can minimize the look a little -- until you stop using them) is to lose the fat underneath. There is a weblike layer that the fat pushes through, causing the look of cellulite. The less fat, the less you'll see cellulite. You cannot reduce fat from specific areas, except with lipo, so you need to concentrate on overall fitness. Cardio burns fat, and weightlifting and building muscle mass increases the amount of calories your body uses each day. Pilates is great for toning the muscles and pulling in a pooch. However, all that work will be hidden under fat if enough is present. Sadly, my former six-pack is now a four-pack because I'm not taking my own advice!

As an aerobics instructor I get this question from women who are trying to get back in shape after having a baby and also babyboomers and seniors. As other resondants have said, it's cardio and nutrition. Pilates and yoga will help strengthen and tone your core. Weights will help, too. Most of all cardio is going to burn the calories and fat while toning. But exercise isn't going to take care of everything, a healthy diet is also needed. Let me know if you need any more advice.

Hi M.,
I am a personal trainer, cycling, sculpting and pilates instructor....all of the above have helped me but the key is to be consistent and to maintain a healthy diet in a caloric deficit (or fewer calories in than you burn each day) on most days of the week. My little one is 19 months and, despite being a trainer, it has taken longer for me to tone my tummy than I'd hoped too...something to do with putting everyone but me first (I'm sure no one understands that, right mommies ;0). I live in Discovery Bay and I'm happy to give you any additional help or advice if you'd like....just stay with it and work on taking care of yourself and making time for some type of exercise every day if you can.
Take care and good luck!

You may not want to hear this, but the ONLY way to get rid of it is a lot of cardio and pilates or yoga to work your core muscles. Also, you may want to do a tweak to your diet - reduce your sugar and carb intake. Nature has an evil sense of humor - women lose belly fat last. You'll notice your face, hands, arms and even breasts slim down way before your tummy. If you have cable - or AT&T U-verse there's a great belly dancing work out called Shimmy you can record. It's fun, easy to learn and makes you feel really girlie and kinda hot. Great little ego boost.
Eat a good, high quality piece of chocolate once a week for your soul - keep you from feeling deprived and helps with PMS.
Enjoy!

my only advice is it's never too late to start! try finding ways to exercise your whole body and start out slowly with your tummy...expect results after several months of work, not immediatley. hope it helps :)
