I'm in my third pregnancy. I am only 18 weeks, and I have been getting so big!!! My other two pregnancies were not like this. I have already gained 15 pounds, and that was with morning sickness and losing weight for the first two months! My 10 week ultrasound only shows one baby clearly. Everybody keeps commenting how large I am already.
I am a small gal, only 5' and small frame, and it's not weight being put on anywhere but my belly. The rest of my body still looks normal, but my belly is outrageously huge already to me. I'm not concerned about being fat or anything like that, just wondering if this is normal ...maybe since it's my third pregnancy in 4 years? Do they get bigger like this so fast if you have had more than one? I lost all the weight both times after my first two (thank God for breastfeeding)... that's why I am so confused why I got so big so fast. I look like I could be due in a couple months, and I am not due until december! People were already asking me what I was having a even a couple months ago. That was frustrating because the doctor can't even tell that early, but I guess they thought I was further along.
Please share if you have had a similar experience!
Oh, and I am still young, I'm only 22... So I don't think my body should be losing it's elasticity yet LOL ...maybe two pregnancies have just stretched me out too much?
My 3rd pregnancy was like this. At 6 months I looked and felt full term and was absolutely miserable. I think everything just stretches so easily at this point. I too lost weight in the beginning of the pregnancy and only gained 20 pounds for the whole thing. Just try and enjoy it as much as you can. I just love a pregnant belly :)

You could either be pregnant with a really big baby, like I was. I showed super early, and I got huge really fast. When I was 5-6 mos. prego, everyone said I looked like I was full term. I'd have people asking me when I was going to "blow." lol! My daughter was 9 lbs. 1 oz. 21 inches long.
Or you could be prego with twins, and the other baby isn't showing up yet. I've heard of that happening.

I am currently about 16 weeks along with my third in three years and also am feeling huge already. I have also had people asking me about the baby. I am carrying this one a lot high then I did my girls and I think that is part of the problem. The worst part is that I can not even come close to fitting into my swim suit that I wore all summer long with the last one and their due dates are only about 3 weeks apart. SOOOOO depressing! I guess that's the way it goes though. It is good to know I'm not the only one feeling huge so early.

Has your doctor checked for gestational diabetes yet? That is the only reason I can think of. My friend just had her baby last week and she also had the diabetes which made her gain alot of weight early in her pregnancy. Hope that helps! E.

Hi S.,
I dont really have any advice, just wanted to let you know that youre not alone. This is my 2nd pregnancy, my daughter is 2, i am almost 15 weeks and am already showing, I had to go out yesterday and get some new maternity clothes because it was so painful to wear regular clothes. My cousin has been saying for weeks now that I am showing, and I was a little concerned too but she has been reassuring me that after your first one you show sooner. But I am the same way as you, just a little self concious. Everyone keeps saying that they think its twins (i had to have an internal sonogram to determine my due date....so there is NO WAY there are 2 babies!!!!) but even my grandma thinks that they are wrong about my due date because im already big.
Just keep your chin up and focus on the fact that your baby is getting the nurishment that he/she needs!
Good Luck!!!

I've learned that not just every mom but also every pregnancy is different. I'm on my third child right now, due in October and my belly's as big as a house! I wouldn't be too concerned unless the doctor has expressed any worries over weight gain too fast. You'll just have to endure a few extra jokes about having twins:) Just take extra care with your back, I've also got a pretty small frame and counter-balancing the extra weight isn't always the most comfortable. Congrats on the new addition! :)

When I had my 1st daughter I was 25 years old. I gained 40 pounds in my first 3-4 months and then nothing after that for the rest of the pregnancy. It was the hottest summer that year and I was so miserable. The night my daughter was born I lost 50 pounds!! So I was actually smaller than when I got pregnant. It was awesome. My other 7 pregnancies didn't end that way. I've always had to work hard to get the extra weight off. I look good for having been pregnant 8 times. Your body changes every time but see what your doctor says. Can you exercise? I was high risk and I was unable to do much of anything.
Good Luck

Without at least 1 to 2 years between pregnancies, the abdominal and muscles and the muscles of the hip and pelvic floor do not have adequate time to re-establish full strength and tonality. It isn't just about post partum weight loss. A woman's body gives up a lot of nutrients and minerals to build a baby. It takes a bit of time after birth and, perhaps nursing, for her body to regain normal metabolic balance in order to rebuild strong muscle tissue.
Three pregnancies in 4 years just doesn't allow for the pelvic girdle to feel much like a 'girdle'.
If I were in your circumstance, I would see a good chiropractor regularly both pre and post partum and I would join a yoga class for pregnant women. You can ask at Community Centers, YMCA's, Yoga Centers, or even call the Le Leche League to see if you can find one near you. They can help you get as much as possible out of those muscles. The chiropractor and the yoga class will likely keep you much more comfortable throughout the pregnancy.
Good luck!

I was 22 with my son and had to buy maternity pants at 6 weeks I became so large with my son even though I was sick all the time and losing weight all around but my tummy,my daughter I also became large and was 26.Now that i'am 28 on my third pregancy you can kindda tell that i'am pregnant i'am 7 weeks and will be going to buy maternity shorts since just 2 weeks ago my reg.shorts no longer fit me nor go past my hips. It's crazy how fast a pregnant woman grows and some don't.Anyway you are normal the more children the more elasticity you lose and the bigger you become in most cases. If you are at all concened check with your dr at your next appt. he'll be able to soothe your worries.

As an OB delivery nurse I can help you on this one. First, lisg your concerns to your OB doctor just to make sure there is nothing fishy going on. Make sure you eat healthy and walk daily. Drink LOTS of water. With each pregnancy, your uterus and stomach muscles lose their "tightness", so it is MUCH easier to expand that muscle. It is totally normal. Your stomach muscles never really return to how they were before having kids. Don't be surprised either if it seems like you are carrying low, it's because your uterus is much easier to expand and drop.

I was pretty huge myself. I'm only five feet tall. I really think that's a big part of it, because the baby has nowhere to go but out. It seems that tall women have more room for the baby so they don't show as early or as severely...

I am guessing it just shows sooner and larger... I am in my third pregnancy - six weeks along - and I look like I am already about four months preggers. Maybe it is just me... but I even had to whip out my maternity clothes this past weekend... no sense in feeling miserable and uncomfortable. (I just feel SUPER bloated). Thank god for elastic. LOL
I dont see the doc until middle of August.

Several things could cause this-hidden multiple or too much aminotic fluid in the uterus are the usual culprits. Several pregnancies close together or just a bigger baby are the other usual culprits.

My third son is 4 moths old. Like you I was very large, just in my belly. I showed much earlier this time than the other two times. Each sonogram (I had 5) I asked them to check that there was only one. They did, and there was. My mom thought I was further along, I wasn't. I only gained 20 lbs. It was all baby. So to answer your question, you are not alone. Congrats on the third baby!

Well, I see there are lots of responses already - you know you're not alone. I'm 5'10", so the whole 5 ft. thing doesn't really apply. I usually get away with it for a long time (everyone says 'I didn't even know, you can't tell, blah, blah) until 25 weeks, last time it was 30???? THEN everyone thinks "that did not just happen, you're having twins, etc.." I've had at least two years between each birth (one 8 year gap) and this is my fourth (Sept). From the second on, they've hung low but each one's different - just bigger than "normal". Whatever that's supposed to mean! I've gained the least amount of weight with this one and my tummy's bigger than it's ever been - even at delivery - and I'm a little over a month away yet??? Grow, be healthy - best wishes for you and your little ones!

How funny- this sounds like me execpt this is only my second pregnancy! I am due on Dec. 22 and have also gained 15 pounds! I actually started my first pregnancy at 118 lbs and gained 25 lbs, but then went down to only 100 lbs because of breastfeeding/pumping. I got pregnant again the week I stopped breastfeeding, so I attribute some of the weight gain to that. I think you are doing fine- good luck!

OMG you are very normal!!! I was 4 1/2 months with my second and looked almost 8 months. I think your body is just saying "hey here we go again". Our bodies have an incredible way of adjusting and it seems like yours has. Your baby could also be really large in the end. My first was 9lbs 2oz at 3 weeks early and my second was 9lbs 8oz at 4 weeks early. Make sure your doctor keeps checking your blood pressure and sugars, you never know that could be a reason too. Congratulations on your third. Good luck and God Bless.

Hi S.,
I was so glad to see this post! I am pregnant with my second baby and at 14 weeks people keep asking me if I'm having twins! I had an ultraslound and there's only one baby. My daughter was just born last August, so I'm pretty sure my abs just have not had time to tighten back up much. I've been told that this is normal so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Congrats on your upcoming addition!
