Hubby Okay'd $1K Purchase - Would You Do It?

Ok - so this is quasi-hypothetical. I work out quite a bit - have been a steady gym member for at least 10 if not closer to 15 years. I go at least 3 to 4 times a week and try very hard to take care of my body. I do, however, have stubborn fat on my saddlebag area - no matter what I do it just doesn't really go away. I don't stress about it but it kinda bugs me. Well...they are doing a Groupon deal in my town for the Ferona plan - which is lasers that "freeze" your fat cells and then you pass them naturally (sweat, urine, etc) and in the end can lose up to 14 inches. THe deal is $1000 for 6 sessions - which would be plenty for my "problem areas". I sent a half hearted note to hubby about how much I wanted to do it - and he wrote back and said GO FOR IT!!! Woo hoo - I really, really, really want to do this - but I'm holding back. Mostly because $1000 is a lot of money to spend on myself - I'm lucky if I spend that much over the course of YEARS - more less in one fell swoop. He thinks I should do it, though, because I really want to and he knows how hard I work at being fit/active. He has made purchases like these over the years for new bikes, etc (a brand new mountain bike completely built out is over $1k) and thinks if I want it I should go for it.

What do you ladies think? Do you ever have a heard time justifying something for yourself even when you're given the ok????

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your wonderful support! I have decided to hold off on buying this cause I want to do a little more research - but it has gotten the wheels spinning. :-)

My wife had 8 kids and she had some belly fat that she just couldn't get rid of. She spent much, much more than $1,000 and got rid of it. So far it has stayed off for 7 years. She is much happier.

I don't know if it will come back or not, but I'm glad she got it done. Why? Because it made her happy.

If you think this will work and do what you want it to, then go ahead.

Good luck to you and yors.

I think you should do it if it is safe and works. It sounds like you would really like to and would be pleased with the results. If you have the money to spend, I say go for it too!
Good luck!

Of course you're having a hard time justifying spending money on yourself. We all do, but your hubs is right. You deserve it. It is not going to take anything away from anyone else in your life. No one is going to suffer because you did something good for yourself. In fact, when you feel better about yourself, that good feeling will spread to your family. I say do it!

Because you don't regularly do this type of thing, your husband is probably thrilled that you are even considering doing something luxurious for yourself. Do it! If it will make you feel better about yourself and you can afford it, give it a try.

And yes, I struggle with this all the time. I'm pregnant and have taken a "corporate" job since my last child, meaning I need new maternity clothing. He literally pushed me out the door last week to go buy some dress clothes. I was reluctant, but really happy when I came home and it didn't take me an hour to put together something "appropriate" for work!

I think if it's what you want, he's agreed to the amount, then GO FOR IT!

I will admit, I would double think about it, but in the end if it's what I want then I would. I wanted Lazik earlier this year, put all the money into my Flex Spending...appointment set, two weeks before I go to the dentist...and bam gotta use my 3K for my teeth. No surgery...but I plan on doing it next year!

I think most wives and mothers have a hard time spending money on themselves (myself included!). Your husband obviously thinks you deserve it. If it's not a case of groceries of the procedures, then I think you should go ahead--guiltless-ly!

If it's something you would love to do, and something you would otherwise normally consider doing (it's not a "gotta have NOW, because I saw it on Groupon and I only have 24 hours to buy it!!), I say DO IT!!

Personally, this type of body fat eliminating program, I would research the heck out of before dropping $1000 on it, because I would think it would be a temporary (few days, a week) fix, and not a long term fix. Just something to think about. If you're into working out, why not a body fitness class/getaway? Some home gym equipment?

Your husband said yes. Do it. It will help you feel better about yourself. It's not like you have not tried to get the problem areas to go away...you go to the gym frequently...so he knows you are serious...he wants you to feel good about you so do it. stop questioning it and just do it.

No. I don't have a hard time spending on me if it's justified. And to me, this sounds justified...you aren't looking for a quick fix. you have tried and it hasn't worked. DO IT!!

My husband gave me his blessing to spend $8500 this past May for a tummy tuck. It came from his hard earned yearly bonus. I have spent the last two years working my tail off losing 81 lbs. But my lower tummy was a terrible floppy mess...I mean REALLY bad, way more than a silly little pooch. I love that my husband cares enough about me to sacrifice that much money to help me feel better about myself. So when and if you choose cosmetic surgery, don't feel guilty about it. :-)

ALL THE TIME. I never spend money on myself. My husband is constantly telling me to go out and treat myself and I just cant do it. I dont have a problem spending the money on my daughter or my husband but if its something just for me I cant seem to do it. I think if your husband is being this supportive you should take him up on the offer
I know easier said than done but you asked what we think and I think you should go for it =)

Precisely because this is something you don’t do often, if you have the money and it’s something that you really want and will make you feel better, GO FOR IT and DON’T feel guilty.
Good luck!!!

Everyone has already responded to do it, so I'll just add that if your insurance has a medical out of pocket plan, then factor it in for the next year so that the 1K is tax deductible!
