I did put my TV in the closet when I couldn't get my daughter to get disengaged from the TV and we talked much more together. Now she has 3 kids under 4 and she and her husband have never had a TV together. Their children can go into a store and do not ask to take any toys home and they can discern which things are more important to them. They have a scheduled outside time, inside play time, quiet time and helping out time. She uses the internet and her computer to expose the older ones to the shows she wants them to see, and believe it or not, they prefer musicals and people shows on Hula.com (Mr. Rogers) to the high energy cartoons. Her oldest is at the top of his class and is extremely personable to others. I know this doesn't answer your question, but have her watch what is important to your values.
