Line the shower tray with paper towels then pour bleach on the paper towels. Let soak for a couple of hours. I do this occasionally in my kids bath tub and it looks brand new although it is going on 11 years old.
Hello mamas (and dads),
I need and advice on how to clean a plastic shower tray.
Our house is 7 years old. We bought it directly from the builder, but did not have a "say" on a shower.
So, builder put a cheapest peace of ....tray there. Over the years it yellowed a bit.
Our shower walls are a white ceramic tiles, which makes a tray even more yellow :-(. We are not up to remodeling a bathroom at this time, so I was wondering if anyone has a secret of how to whiten this tray. I've tried vinegar, A&H soda, Ajax, Comet, Erasor sponge, Bleach - you name it.
Am I out of options?
Thanks, girls.
Unfortunately, replacing is not an option - it would involve tearing the shower wall and a door.
But I'll try bleach.
I also bought an industrial cleaner. Smells awful :-). we'll see if it's cleaning power is as strong as it's smell :-)
Update: There was no miracle, but this cleaner did do a good job. I took JC's advice and soaked paper towels with it.
After 4-5 hours the tray looks much cleaner(and I thought it WAS clean before).
Although (unfortunately, Jo W, you are right) yellow did not go away, but faded a little .
Thanks, ladies and gents!

If it is just plain old plastic there is nothing you can do. Over time it yellows.
Would it be difficult to remove and put something different in its place?
Like Jo W said, if it is indeed a plastic shower bottom you can replace that with little cost.
Lowes, Home Depot have several options or tile to match.
Call around and see if you can find someone that resurfaces tubs. They spray it with some sort of silicone stuff and it is BRIGHT white, we've had some of our tubs and enclosures done here, it's only 400 bucks to do the whole tub and enclosure so I'd guess just doing the bottom of a shower would be fairly reasonable..... especially if you add up all the chemicals you've already tried, it probably would have paid for the resurfacing ;)
I know you mentioned Comet, but have you tried Bar Keeper's Friend?
It's the same sort of product, but I've heard it works well on hard water type buildup, which could be part of your problem.
I feel for you! Nothing worse then cleaning and cleaning, and not feeling like something looks clean!
Hope something works!
