I know a silly queston but hoping someone has a answer. My twins learned to potty train first on a small potty then the big potty with a kid seat. Now, my 2.5 yr old is ready to train and has used it a few times but she wants nothing to do with the little potty which is good, I don't like to clean it anyhow. But..when she sits on the big potty and I am called away by one of the twins, I can't tell visually if she put her pee in the potty. I thought about putting a plastic liner or bag under the seat so I would see if anything had happened but tjhat seems messy. I am guessing, someone on this board is more clever than myself:) Ideas?
Thanks so much for all the responses. I didn't know they made tablets that pee would turn the color. I think we will keep on course and test for wetness. She does tell me she has gone pee pee but if it is so small, hard to telll if she did or if she is just telling me :0 I am with her most of the time when she is sitting there but with 3 who are 4 and under, I can't even use the restroom without someone calling me for something:)
One response mentioned "why do I have to know?" Well, I don't have to know, just would like to know. As I learned with my older two, it isn't like they will be entering high school in diapers. They all have their own pace for everything.

I can tell when I help my daughter wipe. It may only be a tiny trickle, but the toilet paper is usually at least a little damp. If you are comfortable with it, I suppose you could simply touch her before you wipe too.
A drop or two of food coloring in the toilet, pee will change the color ; )
If you are really concerned, you can go to a medical supply store (or online) and get a Urine Collection hat. It fits on the potty and will catch the urine (or whatever), then easily dump it back into the potty and clean if you want to reuse. I think they are meant to be disposable though.

Usually there will be a tiny amount of yellow... putting anything under the seat is going to just splash it all over.
What if you put a strip of toilet paper in the water BEFORE she goes? It's going to sink as it absorbs more water, but I would think that if her pee lands on the paper, then the yellow is going to appear better than if it goes directly into the water and blends. Just a thought...
ha, it's not silly, I had the same problem with my girls. Really, I couldn't tell. I would ask them. They sometimes told me the truth. :)
You can get those flushing tablets that go in the tank. There is one that turns your water blue. Then when your kids pee in the toilet the water will turn green.
I had a simmilar issue, thank goodness boys are a little messier than girls he he. One person I knew who was a "Potty Training Guru" said that she tends to give the kids drinks with colors/dyes in it that week so the pee always has color ... to me a CROCK!!! but, she swears by it. Honestly, I do not reccomend it.
Honestly - I like the toilet paper/wiping idea for a girl that seems the most logical and not wasteful method.
Ok, after some looking around ... a possible solution are those bath color tablets, put them in the toilet and the color will alter a bit when she has peed for real ... I would guess putting them in the tank would keep the color of the whole tab for a few flushes ... not sure but if it does not work they are fun in the tub!
When we started with the potty, I always helped wipe. I would just check for a drop or two of pee on the bum. Simple as can be. Sometimes having a piece of toilet paper in already can make it easier to see as well.
