I just had my baby march 22nd and gave him up for adoption and obviously not breast feeding but my breasts still have engorged and have been leaking the past 2 days. I have been wearing breast pads and tight bras but it is still painful and doesn't seem to be working.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I tried the first phase of cabbage and no change so far. I have still been wearing tight bras and looked up the mothers milk site for the herbal suppliment but found nothing to dry up, only suppliments to help you lactate. Still looking for suggestions.

Cabbage leaves will help with the pain a lot, better than Advil. They also seem to help with drying up. Cold leaves inside my bra were instant relief as well as helped with the swelling.

Parsley will help stop milk production. You can eat it, and add it to your other foods as a seasoning. Good luck!

Hi Tosha,
I had to dry up my milk supply after losing a baby at five months, and everything they told me at the hospital didn't work. Then I learned that a tincture of sage could help, and it was miraculous how it worked! I still ahve the bottle and would love to give it to someone who could use it (I just would have to check and see if it would still be effective, as it is now four years old.) try calling a store in Denver called Apothocary Tinctura - they do alot with lactation and fertility, and they are the ones who turned me on to the stuff that worked so well for me. In fact, it will be on sale at the end of this month :) Good luck!

Try a company called Mother's Milk. They produce herbal supplements and one of them is for helping you dry up.

For me, just taking reagular birth control pills made my milk dry up. I didn't mean for it to, but when it started to happen I would only nurse my son to take the pressure off. Eventually I don't have to nurse anymore, and it didn't take very long. Maybe you could try this and just pump a little if you get too uncomfortable. Good luck!

It will take time. It took my sis 4 mo. to dry up completely even with all of the tricks.

Ask your dr if there is something you can take to help dry up the milk ducts. Typically just time is the thing to do with drying them up.

I took a bandage wrap like the kind you wrap a sprained wrist or ankle and wrapped it tightly around my breasts for a few days. Looked like a young boy in my clothes because it makes you look flat chested while you wear it, but it worked. You need to wear it consistantly, not just for an hour or two.
