We are working in potty training and although I wash the cloth soon after an accident, sometimes the cloth gets impregnated with, well, you know the odor. What is the best way to avoid this and how do I get it off. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Add a cup of vinegar to the wash water. It wil lget out that smell. My son was a bd wtter and it did not matter how much soap I used or extra rinse. I also tried baking soda and borax but not the greatest, just lessened it. Once I saw the suggestin on here, I started and now use it for my towles and sheets as well since they can tend to sit in the closet for a few days before we actually use them. My daughter still has accidents sometimes and her stuff never smells. And a bottle of vinegar only costs $1.50 or so and lasts me at least a few weeks of laundry.

I agree with the Borax. I use it for alot of smelly laundry around here. Hubby works outside in the heat, and is a generally sweaty sorta fella. Also his workout clothes of his were getting horrid and a pal suggested this for me and it works fantastic. I also use in loads of dishrags/towels (we go thru a million of these each week), and for any daycare kids (I am a provider) wet bedding, spit up rags and other things that are especially smelly. Boy..I sure have smelly laundry issues!! LOL

I get it at Target...like $5 for the box..powdered stuff. I have a HE front loader, so I add little or alot to the soap compartment for the smelly loads. Cheap and works great!

Add the Tide or Clorox stain remover tablets to your wash. That should get give the extra "oomph" to your wash and get it out.

If she drinks more water maybe the urine will be less potent. I know that helps me. Sometimes when it is concentrated it can have more of a smell.

I bleach all underwear, even the black ones. I start the warm water, add the detergent to the running water, add 1/4 C bleach, let it fill a few minutes then add the clothes. It does not turn them colors. If you have black and white then I would wash the whites in a white/light load then the dark ones in a dark load. With a dark load you will want to let the washer fill completely and agitate a moment then add the clothes. I do this all the time and do not have bleached out dark's. They look really good.

Line-drying in the sun gets the smell and any stains out better than anything else I've found.

Vinegar absolutely works! Add a cup for full load; 1/2 cup for smaller load. Use the same amount of detergent-not more of it just cause you may have urine smelling clothes in with other dirty clothes. Also, if I am washing whiltes, I will use some clorox too. Good Luck w/laundry during this time. We've all been there...

Maybe a tad more detergent when you wash them. Or try adding some baking soda to the wash.

I use the Arm & Hammer Oxy Gel detergent, along with Tide Stain Release Booster gel packs and haven't had a problem...yet!
