How to Protect My 2 Year Old Son from Bumping into Wall Corner

Hi, my 2 year old son is very active. He likes to run and run and run - inside the house. Today, he was running and I think he tripped on something (something on the floor, carpet, or his own feet, DK) and fell and hit his head straight on a corner of the wall. He had a bleeding nose, split lip, and a lump on his forehead.

We want to prevent this from happening again. We can tell him to not run inside, but with him, I think it's almost impossible to keep him from running, at least right away. I started looking at corner guards at Amazon, but they all seem to come off easily.

So, I'm seeking ideas from you moms about what I can do (and you have done) to cushion corners. Do you use one of these strips, which brand and how well does it work? Any other creative ideas? Some corners in our house are made of straight smooth walls (the one he ran into today), some are made of bricks, and some are fake wood panels.

Thank you!

What can I do next?

Sheesh, Whole generations, including my 8 and 11 yo grandchildren and their friends, were successfully raised without cushy stuff put on corners. In my experience kids, including toddlers learn from experience and won't do that again. What are the odds that he'll trip next to a corner again? He's now discovered that walls are hard. He won't run into one on purpose.

The rule is "we run outside not inside."

Now that this happened you can remind him.. "remember when you were running in the house and got hurt? That is why we walk in the house."

Just repeat.. Children are not to ever run in the house, because you do not want them to run in anyone else's houses..

It is the same at school. We do not run in the room or halways. We can run outside or in the gymnasium.

forget the corner guards.

be vigilant & make sure he's not allowed to run.....if he's 2, then he's old enough to learn to listen to you.

The only protector I use is a gate around our fireplace.....

Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry. Poor baby.
I bought the corner guards from Wal-mart that are a long beige corner cushion.
I attached them to the corner of walls w/the adhesive strips they came with.
They served their purpose & are easy to remove.
I would go get them for sure. They brick is worrisome.
They were inexpensive too.
So sorry for your little one.

I'd put a basket or something else on that corner so he'll naturally run around it and away from the corner.

Lots of outside activity. If the weather doesn't permit, take him to an inside play area every day if you have to.

No running in the house. It needs to be a rule, and a rule that's enforced. Kids that age are clumsy by nature, but rules against rough play will prevent a lot of injuries, and are just good rules to have.

My son used to bounce from the hallway into his room, what my husband did was put foam around the corners and all around the door and basically all around the end of the hallway. That worked wonders for us.
He used the foam from those puzzle style foam carpets and he put mattress foam on top of it with some screws. We used it for about 2 years maybe a little bit more.

is he... tripping/falling in the house because he has shoes on?
If so, have him go barefoot.
Sure that won't prevent falls 100%, but being barefoot... is more sure-footedness.

Kids go barefoot here, in the house.

But boys are naturally very physical.
He is young... but it will get more... physically active.
I have a son.
