Hi My little girl has been so sick this past month, On Oct 21 my daughter was admitted to the hospital Her whole Gi track lymph nodes where inflamed, She was put on a 10 day antibiotic, Then her eczema flared up and was put on a steroid cream. Then on November 7 she came down with a uti and was put on another round of antibiotic. As of yesterday morning my daughter woke up with a sore throat and coughing. I am not one who is comfortable with so much antibiotics for my daughter. Ever since she as been on the antibiotic she complains of tummy pain. I have heard about Probiotics but have no clue what is the best kind to give her or how about to give them to her. If you have any information to help me I would ever be so grateful:) Thank you

Florajen probiotics are wonderful and they have a kids line. They have to be refrigerated so you'll have to ask for them in the pharmacy and they may even have to order them in. They're roughly $15 for a month supply but they're well worth it. The kids one is safe for 6 mo and older. It's a capsule you can sprinkle in food/drink. I use these with my children. hope this helps

There are childrens probiotics in every pharmacy/drug store, etc. They have chewables and gummies. I believe it's one a day, but it dependson which one you get. I keep saying I'm going to get some for my kids but they are pricey and I have 4 kids, so.....they may get them in their Christmas stocking!! LOL!! I'm sure they'll be excited about that!

There are lots of brands of probiotics. I suggest going to your local health food store and picking up a powdered form to add to her drinks or food. They can be used all the time not just when she is taking antibiotics.

I use Culturelle packets for kids, you can find them in the grocery store.

Kefir milk has a lot more probiotics than yogurt. It takes kind of like a drinkable yogurt. My kids love it. I buy it at whole foods.

Children over the age of 4 or so can take adult probiotics, so there's no need to spend extra on a children's variety. I buy the Pharmaca store brand of refrigerated probiotic capsules. I take one daily and my girls get half each. I just open the capsule and pour the powder on yogurt or applesauce or whatever else they're having that is slightly mushy.

Yogurt and kefir do have some probiotics in them, but it's nothing compared to all the different strains you find in probiotic capsules. If she's been on antibiotics, get her the best you can find - real probiotics.

Activia yogurt has probiotics, as do most yogurts. I've heard that Greek yogurt has more probiotics. There are also yogurt/probiotic drinks in the dairy case.

My kiddos LOVE the white chocolate bears from Vitamin World they run $9.99 for 40 and if your daughter is so sick, she should have 2 a day, but then after she gets better it would be 1 a day. I recommend these because you don't have to fight them to get it in. And, you don't have to hide it either.

Rainbow Light also makes a gummy one, I think they are around $18 a bottle, I saw them at Target, but have gotten them yet. They look really good though. Rainbow Light makes everything from Food and so there is nothing artificial in it, so I always like this brand, but sometimes they are just not yummy enough. So these would be good if she likes them.

I hope she gets back on track and feels better soon!

Oh, if she starts getting really really stinky gas or poops, it just means it is working, but if she says it is uncomfy the she might need to start slower and give her a chance to work up to the 2 a day dose. Yogurt is ok, but it just doesn't have the same effects as the actual probiotics themselves. Also you can get Belly Juice which is in the refrigerated juice section and is about $5 a quart, but it also works really really well and my kids love it. I buy it when its on sale or I have a coupon because of the cost.

We started out using Yum-yums that I got from Whole Foods. It was a good start because it only had 1-2 strains in it. From there we now use Garden of Life and get it from Vitamin Shoppe. It comes in a powder form and is found in the refrigerated section. I either put it in oatmeal or a cup of yogurt for all my kids and myself. My husband uses the capsule form because otherwise he forgets to use it. Go to a health food store and ask questions. Find out what would be best to use right now since her GI tract is so screwed up right now. I can totally understand why her tummy must be hurting. You might need to try a couple of different brands to find out what best works for her.

We use Florastor Kids at Target . Our doctor usually recommends it every time they are on an antibiotic . I'm surprised your doctor hasn't mentioned it .Does she really need another antibiotic for the cough ? Mucinex is what our doc recommends .Hope your daughter is feeling better soon :)

You can go to a local nutritionist or Naturopath Dr.

We had a family member lose 50 pounds and was very ill. This was last yr...The nutritionist put this fellow on very, very good quality probiotics...after 2 months, he was like a new person !

Organic yogurt would be ok---but, quality probiotics are better !

Hope she feels better soon !

They can't hurt. My children don't take them but eat a ton of yogurt and they rarely have issues with their belly.
