How to Get Yellow Mustard Stains Out

Does anyone know if there's any way to get yellow mustard stains out of clothing? There is a spot on my daughter's sleeve. The shirt is white with a princess design on the front and a pink edging around the edge of the sleeve. The stain is on the white part, bit I don't think it's possible to soak it in bleach without getting the pink edging in the bleach also. I don't even know if bleach would do the trick. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I think bleach would do the trick. I would soak the spot in a cold water/bleach mix. I use Clorox Ultimate Care which is a kid-safe, mild bleach, but it works! If that doesn't work, you might as well just bleach the whole shirt. Better no pink than just not wearing it at all.

I have used liquid Oxy Clean laundry detergent straight from the bottle and rub it in a bit before laundering. I've been amazed at how great it works!

Clorox makes a bleach pen, so you can just put the bleach where you need it. Oxyclean does a good job of removing stains without bleaching out colors. The sun, combined with lemon juice for really tough stains, is also a great stain remover.

My son used to have a couple of white t-shirts that had navy- blue banding around the neck and sleeves and I tried this with spaghetti stains on the white part. Use a Q-tip dipped in straight bleach, being really careful and precise, dab the bleach only on the stained white area. Use only a little at a time, only what you need so the bleach does not spread out past the stain. Make sure that it does not soak through to the back of the garment if there is color there that you do not want bleached. If it is going to work, it will work immediately and you will see the stain fade before your eyes. Then, and this is really important, immediately rinse the bleach from the garment under running water so it does not get onto any other part of the item. Hold the fabric right up to the faucet and run the water gently so as not to spread the bleach around. If you don't rinse right away and let the bleach sit on the fabric, the area that you cleaned will turn yellowish. It is kind of a pain to do it this way but it worked for me. Good luck.

No idea on getting rid of the stain, but you could always cover it up! The craft section at Wal-mart (and other stores) sell patches/appliques you can sew on which would work, and iron-on transfers, which might work in the right color combo.

If you want to try the bleach route, get a blech pen so you can control where the bleach goes.
Best luck.

I love the Clorox Bleach Pen. It's nice to target just the stain (especially in situations like this where you can't just bleach the garment), and it really works. I use them all the time, especially for all the food stains that seem to end up on sleeves!

I do this all the time for stains on white clothing. Take an old toothbrush and put a little Softscrub with Bleach and rub it on the area. If it doesn't go away right away, then leave it on for a few minutes. Don't make the tooth brush very wet to keep the softscrub from running into a colored area (if it's close to the stain).

Then after sitting awhile or rubbing it with the brush, I take the water spray hose from my kitchen sink and spray the softscrub thoroughly off of the garment, spraying it away from any colored section of the article of clothing.

If this is the first time or two that you do it, then I would wash the whole garment right away just in case there are some "remnants" of softscrub somewhere on the article of clothing.

Pour the softscrub on the kitchen counter first and then just jab a very small amount at a time onto the brush before you start scrubbing.

I used this on anything that is white such as stain on a tennis shoe or purse also.

I use a product called "awesome". I use it on everything, it does not make clothes bleed and is safe with any colors. It is a spray bottle that I get at our Dollar General; cant beleive I found a stain remover for a buck, but it is better than the pricy stuff

Bleach should work to get it out. If you don't want to bother buying a bleach pen for just the one stain, just dip a q-tip in bleach and dab the spot.

Try putting bleach on a q-tip and just dabbing it on the stain. I had to do this to my sons shirt just the other day. It worked good.

I know WD-40 removes tomato stains and lipstick stains, perhaps it will remove mustard stains. I don't know, but it might be worth a try. Otherwise, I have had to completely dye a blouse because of the stains, but then too, we were on a trip and it was quite a few days before I could wash the blouse and it was also very hot where we were and I read that that makes a difference. Good luck. Please let me know, if you try it and if it works.

I've always had luck with the Clorox Bleach Pen. You just put it on the stain, let it soak in, and then wash it. Its not enough bleach to effect the rest of your laundry, but it gets the stain out!

Have you washed and dried the garment? If not, I've always use L.O.C. by Amway to get out pretty much everything. It's an organic cleaner so I can use it on the kids' clothes (and mine, cause I break out to darn near everything). If you have dried it, I'd try taking it to a dry cleaners. Yeah, it's five bucks, but if your little girl is going to wear it for another year or so, it's SO worth the pictures! :)

PS. I just called my mom, and she said when I was growing up she used a water/salt/baking soda mix which seemed to do the trick. I didn't get the ratio of the mix, but if you'd like, I can email it to you. Hope you can get the stain out of her dress!!

I have soaked many stains in Baby Oxy-clean and it's worked wonders for me! I soak it for the time recommended then run the washer. I then run the washer a second time to fully get the soap out. Sometimes after the first wash the stain is still slightly there. But I think always after the second wash it's gone.

why not try a bleach pen. they have gel bleach in them. I use them on a lot of multicolored things that cannot be bleached.
