thanks for all the suggestions. i ended using The Works. i put it around toilet bowl and let it sit overnight. next morning it just wiped right off without any scrubbing at all!! i definitely recommend that product. it worked without scrubbing and cost less than $2!

Throw a bucket of water in the toilet before you go to bed at night. That will force most of the water down. I find that liquid dishwasher soap can really take out stains. After you get the water down, squirt a liquid dishwasher soap around the stained area and let it soak overnight, then scrub in the morning. Comet works pretty good too if you make a paste of it and let it sit overnight on the stained area.

you need a pumice stone, get one at the hardware dept, tell them what you need it for, they will give you the right one.

I heard on TV or read it somewhere to try Alka Seltzer Plus effervescent tablets.

Put 1 or 2 in then leave in for a few mins.

Come back, dump some Comet or Ajax in & scrub w/a brush.

Voila. That is the ONLY thing that has ever worked for ours.

I second the pumice stone. We have hard water stains and that is the only thing that works.

Try a product called The Works that can be bought at Walmart for about a dollar a bottle. It contains hydrochloric acid and cleans damn near anything.

I had to do this with a toilet in an apartment I was renting. I turned off the water supply to the toilet and flushed it a few times to bring the water down. I mixed Comet with a little bit of water to make it paste like and let it sit on the stain for a few minutes. Then I took a heavy brush like you would use for a tub or floors and scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed. It took a lot of elbow grease, but I managed to get it off. I was not happy with the previous tenants after that experience!

When we moved into this house, the toilets were like that. I used comet/ajax and one of those metal/wire scrubby things that you use on metal pots and it looks brand new. Good luck!!!

You probably have hard water with a lot of calcium.

I would get that Calcium Lyme Away product sold at Hardware stores like Home Depot and let it soak over night. Talk with a sales rep in the cleaning department. They will know what works best locally.

If you really want to spend more time scrubbing, then ditto the pumice stone.

I've used a can of coca cola and let sit overnight, it will make it easie r to scrub it off with a little ajax. and you can also use some CLR or spray some bleach and let sit for severaal hours and scrub using your toilet brush and it's gone. works for us:)

I clean apartments after tenants leave and I have 2 things that work... scrub with comet - with bleach or wd40. The latter needs to be used on a dry surface if possible. It will also remove most if not all hard water stains and lime deposits both on porcelain and chrome. Might take a few applications and scrubbing but is fairly safe to use. Just be sure to keep the room well ventilated. Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem; the toilet stain was caused by mineral deposits. The only thing that worked was CLR and a heavy duty scrubber (perhaps if I had let the CLR sit Ionger than a couple of minutes I wouldn't have needed the scrubbing component, but I was too impatient!).

use a bleach based toilet bowl cleaner and leave it in there for a while before scrubbing. The thicker the better, cause it will stay in place better, but anyone really will work.

I use comet to clean the toilets. I also use a Clorox disk that goes in the tank each month to prevent build up and keep it clean. Time is the only thing that removes stains sometimes.

You might try just pouring a 1/2 cup straight bleach in the toilet. Keep the vent/fan on and shut the door to keep the fumes in the bathroom.
