How to Get Rid of Sand Fleas....

I've been seeing these tiny black sand fleas in the house. Has anyone dealt with them before? We just moved into this new house about a month ago and there's still a lot of construction going on around us with new homes being built. We've had the house sprayed before we moved in. Any solutions as to what to use to get rid of them? We have a toddler in the house, so I'm seeking a child safe solution, if possible. Thanks for all your help!!

You may need to have it professional exterminted again for the fleas. When we bought our current home it had lots fleas and it took about 3 treaments before they were gone. We tried home treatments but they just did not work. Let them know you have a child, we usually had our house treated when we were going away for the week-end, so that we did not have to be there when it was the strongest. It always worked for us.
NOTE: After you vacumn the house throw away the bag because the eggs can hatch in there, and there you go again with the fleas. And if you have a bagless system check your filter and clean it with a toothbrush to make sure the eggs are not there as well.
Good Luck.

Been there also. I went to a farm supply store, and got a mixture of things that could be used in the house, 1 killed the fleas and the other killed the eggs. I mixed these two together and put them in one of those pump sprayers.Every weekend I took our dog to be groomed chased the kids out of the house. Vacuumed the house good and then sprayed every room. After it was dried everyone could come back in. After doing this for several weeks I no longer had the problem. My house also did not have a live roach in it or any other bugs for that matter. Good luck.

Hate to say this, but I've heard of a pet-less family that moved into new construction that was riddled with fleas. After several extermination treatments, the problem still existed. They found out that a cat had crawled in between the walls during construction and was "buried" within. I hope that's not the case here...

hmmm... Enda,

Do you have dogs? If so, maybe you could begin to use the Comfortis product... it is a pill for dogs that sterilizes the fleas!

Arm & Hammer Carpet deoderizer. Sprinkle it on and leave it overnight. The fleas eat it and it dehydrates them, it also dehydrates the eggs ~ then you vacuum them, and throw out the bag immediately. If it's really bad, then do it a couple times a week until they're gone.
Good luck!

We use Boron! We buy the old 20 Mule Team Borax your granny probably used in her laundry. See, when they spray pesticides, it only kills the live flea... the eggs can live for yrs, until light or activity disturbs them, then they hatch and look like tiny sand fleas.. but in reality are prob a new hatch of dog or cat fleas! The boron not only kills live fleas, but dehydrates and kills off the eggs. My sisters house was(the powder, infested.. all the carpets and all.. a few yrs ago and I got her to sprinkle this all over her carpets, (the powder, right out of the box) leave it overnight and vacuum it up. (always throw the vacuum bag out or burn it) She did this once a week for a couple of weeks and has Never had fleas again, even though she has indoor pets. I have used this solution many times over the yrs and it has always worked for me. Get them out asap or they mature and start the whole cycle all over again. Good Luck, GramVal who does not use pesticides!

If you have carpet, I'd vacuum the heck out of it and empty the canister or bag in the trash can outside and put a lid on it. My question is- Why would you have to have a NEW house sprayed for sand fleas? I'd be furious and I'd certainly contact the builder about the problem.
