My old office was infested with little gnats from plants and they put sand on top of the soil. That seemed to fix it.
I bought new potting soil, and it wasn't cheap. Supposedly the good stuff. Put it in a bunch of inside plants and they are filled with gnats! Every time I water they start flying around and are driving us crazy. I don't do pesticide if I can help it. Does anyone have a natural remedy? Yesterday I finally put all the plants outside because I couldn't stand it, but one of my plants will not survive the Texas heat once summer is upon us.
Ideas?

We just had this very same problem. Here's what we did:
No water for at least a week (try to go two)
Put wine or apple vinegar into a glass (any size) - use just a couple ounces.
Cover glass with plastic wrap.
Poke several holes in plastic wrap.
Gnats fly in.....can't fly out - get drunk and die.
But the CAUSE is what you have to be careful of the next few months. Overwatering and/or root bound plants are the perfect place to set up a little gnat procreation center. Cut back on the water to just once a week.
BTW - we ended up not having actual 'gnats', but their dopplegangers. More than likely that is what you have. Can't recall the name - but i think they are fungus gnats?
anyway - here's a couple links

Fungus gnats are common.
There are sticky traps you can use which will help to control them.
