I use nail polish remover year after year on classroom items I label with sharpies. Each year I remove names and mark again, so far no damage to anything.
My nearly 3 year old found a red sharpie marker in the kitchen (not sure how he opened that drawer, but that is another story). I turned around just in time to see him draw on my white cabinet door. I am not sure what to use to remove the sharpie (if that's even possible) without damaging/removing the paint on my cabinet door. Suggestions?

We used Magic Eraser on a bright blue sharpie all over a cream door, and it didn't remove the paint. Give it a try on one spot, and if the paint starts coming off, then stop -if not -go for it!
I would try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Or even rubbing alcohol.
I was able to remove red Sharpie stains on my fridge door using Mr Magic eraser. The dish scrubbing pad also worked (the blue ones, I think the brand is SOS).
Whatever you use, make sure to try it on a tiny spot first to make sure it does not eat up the finish of your cabinet.
For example, nail polish remover (acetone) should work, but it may make some finishes look dull (not shiny) if they are based on certain type of polymer.
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
Sol U Mel...but if you use it full strength it can remove the paint so definately dilute first. Very powerful but safe product.
Try goo gone or goof off.. they are graffitti removers and take marker off pretty well. Magic eraser works too.
Try nail polish remover.
you can find a number to call for sharpie, sometimes the company has good tips.
Rubbing alcohol works stellar! Just keep using a fresh cloth so you don't smear it. You'll get it off, as a punishment for your little guy, give him a dry cloth to clean behind you, it worked wonders with my girls.
Yep...Mr. Clean Magic Eraser!! If your cabinets are high gloss, there is a chance it will very slightly dull the finish. I've only noticed that with shiny surfaces. But that's way better than red marker. Test an inconspicuous area on another cabinet, if you want to be sure. I've used Magic Eraser to remove permanant marker from several things. Good luck!!!

I've used the magic erasers to get Sharpie off white walls before. Try the walmart brand, I think they work just as well for half the price =)
Hi M.! I second (or third!) the magic eraser answer - it took black marker off my beautiful birch table (when my husband was supposed to be watching our LO and he watched Real Housewives of Orange Cty instead).
I haven't tried it myself but I have read that a slice of cucumber rubbed on the marker will remove it. Obviously try it in an inconspicuous spot. I would be interested in hearing if it works.LOL
Try toothpaste. The one with whitening in it. Let it sit on there for a few minutes. DO NOT use MAGIC ERASER. IT WILL TAKE THE PAINT OFF.Did you get that?lol Also you can make a paste of Oxiclean and try it. Good luck
I use Sol-U-Mel for tasks like that, works great but it's a Melaleuca product and it's members only so if you aren't a member you have to become one through another member. I can help you or you can call 800-282-3000 and they will connect you to the nearest leader in your area.
