So What Happened?

I got a copy of a rough draft for a book from one of the responders to this. It is an amazing read, and this mom is in the beginning phase of getting this published! This is truly amazing to find wonderful people on this site!

You should start taking prenatal vitamins as soon as possible. Drink a lot of orange juice. Go to the dentist before you get pregnant!

I think the more important preparations are the mental ones. I personally have found that the older I have gotten the harder being pregnant is on my body. So stop waiting and just do it! ;)

I would consider seeing a naturopathic doctor to help optimize your health. There are physicians who specialize in pre-pregnancy preparation. One that I can personally recommend is Hilary Andrews in Sellwood.

Unfortunately I don't have any advice for you. I got pregnant right after I was married so I didn't do anything to prepare for it. But I do wish you luck. Children are the best thing in the world. I was curious to see what your businees is. I like to get to know other people who have home based businesses. I sell Cookie Lee Jewelry. I do that so I can stay home with my six year old daughter. When you decide to get pregnant, I would suggest getting healthy in the few months before conception, if possible. Start incorporating healthy, natural foods into your diet regularly. Try to avoid eating packaged foods and nutrient-paupers like candy and soda. Stop smoking, drinking and any other drugs. If you are on medications, check in with your doctor about their safety for pregnancy, and if you need to, switch to safe medications. Start some regular, gentle exorcise if that is not already part of your lifestyle. (Walking, swimming, prenatal yoga.) Start taking prenatal vitamins.
After a couple months of this, you will be in optimal physical condition for starting your pregnancy.
Oh yeah-relax. Remember that you are giving your baby an awesome headstart with all this stuff. Most of us didn't have the foresight to get in shape before getting pregnant, but most babies turn out healthy even so.
I would also recommend meeting with a couple different midwives and doctors in your area for interviews. Hopefully this way you can find someone you trust right away.
Best wishes to you!

something else,be sure to be getting enough folic acid and other vitamins. Folic acid is so very important for a babies development just after conception. it can prevent alot of birth defects.

I would suggest Yoga, it is very relaxing and good for muscle strength, too. The deep breathing from my Yoga practice enabled me to have my daughter naturally. It was a wonderful experience!
You also want to focus on your diet, eating fresh fruits and veggies and taking a prenatal vitamin before you get pregnant. It wouldn't hurt to go to a doctor and discuss any other health concerns.
One of the most important things you can do is engage in your emotional health, and do things that inspire you. Take an interest in what you enjoy, hobbies and talents that make you, you! It's easy to lose the focus on yourself, but you've got to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else.
Having a baby will change you in so many wonderful ways! It has made me want to be a better person and more kind and helpful to others. Instead of finding what I can get from life, I try to focus on what I can pack into the stream of life. This happened naturally after I had my daughter.

Books are wonderful to read while pregnant, there are so many interesting things to learn about your body and the baby growing inside you. One of my favorites is Your Pregnancy Week By Week.
Good luck and keep us updated! -A.

I would also like to know what you are doing for a home business, I've looked at numerous!

As for getting physically ready, prenatal vitamins are a must, cut down on caffine now (that will help with not having it during the pregnancy) I would also suggest yoga. It help relax you and you can take pregnancy yoga during your pregnancy which will help you with the birth.

Best of luck

I am very interested in knowing what you are doing for home based work. I currently stay at home with my almost 4 year old daughter and just found out that I am expecting our second child in the fall. Bringing money in, even small amount, would be a big help to my husband, who works very hard to support us.

As far as being ready to have children, I don't think anyone is really totally ready to have children. Being any kind of prepared basically makes you ready. You kind of just have to do it. The rewards far outweigh any negative aspects of doing it. The only thing I can tell you about being physically ready is to eat right, get enough rest, take prenatal vitamins before you even conceive, and limit alcohol consumption.

Hi J.-

I actually wrote a book on preconception health (still in process of getting picked up for publication), but would be happy to send you the sections on physical preparation. There are a few specific things you can do as far as your nutritional and physical health that can really help during the preconception period that will prepare your body for a healthy (and hopefully quick!) conception. Let me know if you're interested! ____@____.com

Cheers-
