Craigslist.com would be a good start.
My husband and I recently arrived at the decision that I will resign my job (I am currently on a year leave) and be our daughter's full time mommy. I am thrilled and enormously grateful. I was a music teacher and I would like to take on a few private violin students to help bring in a little money, but mostly because I love teaching and it is a way I can keep doing it. So how would you go about advertising yourself? Has anybody else taken on students or tutoring jobs? I thought of several different ideas, but I would love to hear what you have to say! Thanks for the advice!
Craigslist.com would be a good start.
If you are a music teacher, why don't you put an ad in the school news letter. This has worked for many mothers I know that have left their careers to stay at home and work at home. It will take time, but have patience. Have some business cards made up and go to other local schools and solicite yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh there are so many things! Ads on the bulletin boards at the supermarket, Penny Saver, Yankee Trader (all local papers), contact the music teachers at all the school in your area, music stores, flyers to passout in your neighborhood
I would suggest making up a few small flyers and putting them up in or around music stores in your area.
I have an online newsletter for parents in Fairfield County (www.fairfieldcountychild.com). Maybe I can help you out? My contact info is on the site :)
I don't know what it takes to do it but see if you can be put on teh lists of all teh local schools, A lot of parents use those.
Send a letter to churches --- including all ethnic churches. My experience is some ethnicities are more interested in music/violin than others and would love to have a private tutor. I tried that with tutoring English and I was very successful.
