How to Get Eggs into a Child's Diet

I last gave my daughter egg yolk when she was 8 months old- she threw up immediately after she had swallowed it, so I haven't tried it again. Any ideas on how to reintroduce eggs to her mixed with other ingredients so it's not as strong tasting? She is just turning 1 on Saturday so yolks and whites might be OK, but maybe I should just start with yolks.

You could start with fried rice, that has a little bit of egg in it. That way you could start slowly... Other than that I'm not sure... maybe french toast? {you could make it on whole wheat and skip the syrup to make it healthier ;)}

J.,

My son is a huge fan of eggs now, but it took a while. Check out books like the Sneaky Chef or site like www.weelicious.com for ideas on incorperating it into her diet.

I started small with scrambles of eggs, turkery sausage and veggies. But, my son loves French Toast, I used apple juice or orange juice instead of sugar to sweeten and I also let him dip into the syrup rather than slathering the toast with it.

You could also try things like quiches, they are soft in texture and you can add all kinds of stuff to them! My son loves them, and I even get the Whole Foods brand ones in the frozen section for quick lunches.

There is tons of info out there, just keep in mind that small portions are ideal. My son is lactose intolerant and I've had to make some amendments to his diet. Also when we were ruling out egg (protein) issues we tried No Yolk and other yolk free products. They aren't fantastic, but they are pretty good.

Good Luck!!

Deanna

Yes I would agree with going back to only egg yolks for right now since she hasn't had any to test and see if there is an allergy. Although most of the allergens are found in the whites, but you just never know. For my son, once I got him over the one year hump, started to like eggs and I would make scrambled eggs with mushrooms and turkey bacon crumbles. He loves it! :)
