How to Get Cat to Stop Using the Rose Garden as a Litter Box

Need all the help I can get with this one! Our beloved outdoor/indoor cat has decided to start using our rose garden as her litterbox. Previously we were pretty sure she was going ina dirt patch off by the side of our hose which really wasn't so bad. Does anyone know if there is something natural (no chemicals please) we can spray or put down that would deter her??? Cayene pepper or something similar? I am trying to encourage her to go in the regular litter box, but not having a ton of success.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

What can I do next?

we are having the same problem with our small garden. We had a stray cat that comes everyday to use it as her personal litter box. So last night my husband when out there and peed around the garden. We are hoping his sent will mark this as our territory haha and the cat will stop. So far today no cat so we will see if this works.

You can try capscacian, but chances are it won't work. Noises and visual distraction are unappealing to cats. Give her a different place with the same soil texture as the rose garden, and put noisy motion sensors and reflective tape in the roses, or one of the sprinklers that is motion triggered. It won't be an appealing spot anymore and the texture will be available elsewhere.

Pine cones, or rocks. I have used both in my flower boxes to avoid cats and both work well.

I don't know about anything you could put down, but you could try putting a litter box out there where she normally goes and see if she'll start using it there. Then you can gradually start moving it back toward the house.

Hope this helps.

What I do in my garden to deter the stray cats is I put those bamboo garden stakes/poles in the garden, sticking them in in intervals so that the cat does not have room to even walk around in it or have room to squat.
Its like a physical barrier. You can use any kind of stakes....

or try cinders.

If outside, the chances of a cat using a litter box is minimal. They will go outside in other places. Just out of instinct.
But if inside, a cat will be more likely to use a littler box.

good luck,
Susan

I heard orange peels because cats dislike citrus.

I can't vouch for it working, but I have heard it as a suggestion!

I was told chicken wire, as they can't dig in that, although it didn't seem to work well, or a motion sensor that shoots water.
