How to Find Where Toys Were Made?

Does anyone know how I can find out where toys have been made? I know I could just go to the store and check the boxes, but I was hoping to find this information online. The store websites don't specify and I couldn't find it on the manufacturer sites either. Due to the many recalls lately I would like to stay away from China-made toys. Partly for fear of any non tested toys and partly to not give money to the companies who allowed that to happen. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for your help. I decided to take the kids' wish list to the store... EVERYTHING we wanted to get is mande in China. I couldn't find anything other than the board games we had already purchased that was made in the USA.

I started a Discovery Toys account last year because I wanted US made fun learning toys. I use the account for family, friends and business clients but you are welcome to get Toys at cost. Just let me know.

I have already ask my family and friends not to buy toys unless it is US made. The recall list really had me scared especially because my son had most of them. I am now more cautious about what I buy. The sad part is most of the toys he likes comes from China.

German and Swiss companies make cute, safe toys. I have not seen many recalls from them either. One great place is IKEA. They have unigue ideas and my daughter LOVES their toys!

I hate to tell you but I was told by a very reliable source that many toys say made in the USA but only because the company literally takes the made in China off when they receive them and put made in the USA.

I googled "American made toys" and many sites came up. I think that's your best bet. Happy Holidays and good luck. :)

to be honest I would like to know how to know what is safe and what isn't myself... and my kids are all 'big kids' now. The 'baby' is almost 16... but I do have great nieces and nephews that I want to buy toys for .... I looked at the toys in the store when I was in Wal Mart and basically 9 out of 10 are made in China... I wish there was a way to find out if the toys are safe... do you know if there is any kind of public saftey lead testing going on??

I am having a debate over toys with my husband!!!! We all played with toys and turned out okay. My husband says NO TOYS FROM CHINA. Anyway I spoke with a girl today and she sells toys and can probly give you tons of info about the toy industry. She was helpful to me. Her website is www.discoverytoyslink.com/stayathomemom She seems to know tons about the toy business. Another thing to consider along with the toy scare are the chemicals we clean our home with.

I personally have found this site to be the best with the most modern and exciting products:

http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/shoppingindex.html

With all of these sites its best to remember three things:

1. They are not always careful about who posts on these sites

2. Some companies build some products in America and others elsewhere so its important to look on each product but using these sites in advance can really help.

3. The site I referenced seems to reference more major brands. Some of these sites wait for the company to come to them so they only get the Mom and Pop operations, which is great and should be your choice whenever possible, but "still made in the USA" will reference things more readily available at places like Sears or your local True Value.

sorry I won't be of any help to your question...but I agree with you totally and am trying to do the same.... and from now on by toys that are made here in the Good old USA.
crazy how now everyone has to worry about the toys we buy for our kids not only is it something that they would like, good for their upbringing etc. now we have to worry whether or not they are full of lead, or coated or containing some drug????

Hi R.
I am looking for the same answer myself, however I did want to note that I found out Step2 & Little Tikes, both make several of thier products right here in the USA! You can look them up on thier websites under made in the USA. Let me know if you have any luck finding any other companies...these were the only 2 I found...other then wooden toys that is. Good luck!
Thanks,
L.
