I need to find out about home schooling my going into 6th grade daughter? I need to know where to begin. I am pulling her out this coming school year due to the violence that is at the next school.

What can I do next?

I'm pretty sure you can get info on homeschooling at some of the libraries and also maybe at Mardel's. My big advice though is to get involved in a homeschooling group or co-op so your daughter will have a chance to make friends and socialize.
My personal story is that my mom decided to homeschool me starting 6th grade for the same reason you mention, the school I was going to have to attend was very violent and poorly run. Anyways, I HATED being homeschooled! I was so lonely and really struggled with the schoolwork because my mom wasn't a very teacher, she didn't have a clue how to teach math or english or history, it was a disaster. I cried all the time and it was just a bad year. So for 7th grade she sent me back to school, the bad school that she was so worried about. And I ended up making it into accelerated classes and finishing at the top of my class in 8th grade. But I did have a really hard time making friends when I started in 7th grade because everyone else had already had a year to get to know each other and they all had their little groups and I felt like such an outsider for along time.
Anyhoo, I just think that that is just a really difficult age to try and do something like that, so be prepared!!! Homeschooling isn't for everyone, I am the oldest of 6 kids in my family and so far I am the only one to graduate from a public school and the only one to go to college, my younger sister decided she wanted to be homeschooled and graduated from that and then didn't go to college, and my other sister has been homeschooled nearly her entire life and then just started public school this year and ended up being behind so even though she should be a junior she is actually only a sophomore.

I have never really cared for home schooling...just because I believe that kids should intereact with kids there own age and get to play and just socialize with others...but I had the same problem last year with my daughters school...what I did is I transfered her to another school...all I did was call the school that I wanted and spoke to the principal and told her my reason why...she gave me a few sipulations and now my child loves her school and is doing great...as a matter of fact she got student of the month 2 months in a row this year. I hope this can help...just a another option to consider.

I will be home schooling my son next year too. I have decided to use Abeka Book but there are a ton to choose from. Feel free to email me if you need any more help.

1. Get to know the state home schooling laws. Oklahoma is very
easy to home school.
2. Do an internet search in your area for local support groups,
field trip groups, P.E. classes for home schoolers, Co-op
classes for subjects such as science which can be difficult
to do completely from home.
3. Choose a curriculum, program, academy or whatever form of
home education best fits your situation.
3. Take a deep breath and jump on in and have fun.

Here are some links that have been helpful to me.

M.,
I homeschool my son and I homeschooled my roomates daughter whom is now in college. We are apart of a group with over 200 families and we get together for *SOCIALIZING* every week. If this is really what you want then email me at ____@____.com and I will give you the name of the group and any info I have and answer any questions that you may have. I was also homeschooled and I went to college but now I'm a stay at home mom which is priceless and no college can give you the kind of rewards I'm given everyday. I probably will never work again in the field I am trained in go figure. College is also not for everyone.
Blessings
K.
