Wash them in the washing machine to get rid of water-borne bacteria that tend to lurk in those types of shoes and then simple let them air dry in the house or put them outside in the sun. That's it....you're done!
My daughter wears water shoes ( aqua socks) in the pool at camp and they are soaking when she comes home. I have been leaving them on my window sill underneath our air conditioner to dry. Lately I have been kind of a neat freak and don't want anything on my widow sill. So today I put them on top of a paper towel on my steps (which are carpeted). Is this ok for drying the water shoes?

Out here in the desert, we just set them outside by the pool or in the shoe area in the garage, and they dry in a flash.
It's probably much more humid where you are, so that approach may not work as quickly for you.
I think it's possible to throw them in the dryer for a couple of minutes to jump start the process----just not on high and not for too long.
Then find a place to put them that will be out of your way but will also maximize drying potential---maybe a mudroom or garage entry by an AC vent?
Sure. I usually set my DDs on top of the dryer in the laundry room.
I'd just put them in a sunny spot.
I personally wouldn't want them on carpet so the dripping water wouldn't ruin the carpet. A paper towel isn't going to offer much protection. I would put them just outside a side or back door, in the garage or throw them in the dryer on air dry for a few minutes. Ours most often go in the garage.
We also bring regular shoes for the kids to change into before coming home to give the water shoes longer to dry.
I hang ours in the laundry room from a pant hanger. 2 clips = 2 shoes! If they drip you could always put a towel underneath. Every now and then I try to set out in the sun to get any smell out.
I wash them in the washer and put them on top of the dryer to finish drying.
If you live in an apartment and don't have a washer and dryer you need to go ahead and wash them out by hand perhaps.
I wouldn't want the shoes to be worn over and over and over without washing them in the washer. If you do laundry in a laundry mat just don't put them in the dryer, they'll melt.
