I got a ham steak from my co-op. It's big!! Around an inch think (probably a little bit more then an inch) and has a joint bone in it. It's smoked. I have no idea how to cook the sucker!! Any ideas?

**Also, what should I serve it with? I'm not sure how to make a meal out of it!

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies!! I paired it with red potatoes, mushrooms, and green beans. I'm going to use the leftovers for kale and ham soup :)

Probably already fully cooked, right?
Put it in a large skillet and lightly brown it on both sides.
Mashed potatoes & a salad?
We like ham & pierogies.
Red potatoes and broccoli?

that's one of our go-to favs!

I use a nonstick skillet & a little butter/marg/olive oil. Brown it lightly on both sides.....mmmm, I can smell it now! Yummmm.

Menu #1: make it breakfast. Eggs, pancakes/toast/etc. Hash browns, fried apples....think Cracker Barrel.

Menu #2: chop it up & add to butter beans. Comfort food for my family. Add some chopped onion or jalapeno, if desired. I usually season mine with pepper & garlic.

Menu #3: slice into slivers. Use it in stir fry. Yummm. Another one of our favs.

Menu #4: chunk it or slice into slivers. Use it with a cream-based pasta. We also like it with snow peas/asparagus/brocolli added to the pasta. I have also been known to make an olive oil/garlic-based toss for on the pasta....with no cream. :)

Menu #5: kettle beans....kick-butt version of baked beans, using the ham.

& I can go on & on....it truly is one of our favs. I tend to serve it as a meal, & then use the leftovers to season other dishes. Well, if there's any left!

If you have leftovers, you can make scalloped potatoes and ham, or better yet au gratin potatoes and ham. Yum!
