If they are leather, the best thing is to use alcohol. I use the green alcohol (with wintergreen in it) around my house for various things and it leaves a very fresh scent. The odor evaporates away with the alcohol.
I'd like to know how to clean my daughter's smelly shoes. She wears sandals and noticed that they smell. Any ideas? Besides burning them or throwing them away?

Spray them with vinegar.
I wash my leather sandals in the washer and let them air dry shaped to how I like them to fit.
Washing machine. Unless they are entirely plastic, then soak in white vinegar.
I've heard one of the best ways is to put them out in the sun. The radiation kills bacteria. Also put rolled up newspaper when not wearing them to absorb moisture
Good luck with that! I hope you get some good ideas because I just trash them. I can't stand that smell and I haven't found anything that works. I quit buying anything with a closed or semi closed toe for summertime and I stay clear of the fake Crocs. OMG!! They reeked!!!
We usually stick with flip flops. We have really nice flip flop type sandals and some that were super cheap. No stench.
If they are that smelly and you either have to get the smell out of toss them - then use extreme measures. Go ahead and wash them with soap and baking soda in the washing machine. Then air dry in the sun. See what happens. Good luck!
Depending on the material, after several attempts to use different soaps with no success my mom used anti bacterial soap on my son's shoes and the smell was gone. :)
Depending on the degree of the stench tossing them is best. Try baking soda and sunlight together. Good Luck!
Put them in a zip lock bag(s) and put them in the freezer over night.
alot of it depends on the material. When our child was younger and had sandals that were kind of foamy type material, I would use a normal household cleaner (like a natural one Green Works or Method) and an old toothbrush. My sister has put crocs in her dishwasher and had great success. I saw once on Dr. Oz that soaking your feet in water with tea bags helped get the stink off your feet....it could work for soaking your shoes in too. Baking soda is also a good one like put it in a zip lock with the shoes and shake it up, let it sit overnight, then dust 'em off int he a.m.
