Hello Moms:

I have a very silly question, but I still need some advice. I recently purchased a Burberry purse. Been eyeing this thing for months and finally decided to treat myself to it. Yesterday I noticed that it had beem marked with regular pen ink. I was so upset because of course, what I paid for it and I just got it. AUGHHHH. yes I know its a material object why get upset? I've asked myself that but I can't come up with a good answer as to why I shouldnt be upset about this. So what I have decided is to try and take the calm approach LOL and ask you guys if you know of any way to remove pen ink from vinyl without detroying the vinyl on the purse. So since I am currently calm while writing this, anybody have a great solution for me? I really do appreciate this forum, because its a great place to ask advice and it really does help in situations like this. Nice to know I can go somewhere to vent about pen ink on my burberry purse. thanks ladies!

What can I do next?

Where did you buy it??? I use to work at Neimans in handbags and saw all kinds of things all the time. I would reallllllly recommend you not touching it or trying to clean it yourself just yet. Take it back to where you got it and ask what their process is for cleanings. Usually they can just send it off to whomever they use.

I clean my canvas and suede Coach bags with diluted CLEAR (not colored) dishsoap and a clean toothbrush. I have 2 white bags (what was I thinking?) and they are absolutely black on the bottoms. It helped a little and didn't hurt the purse. There should be some cleaning instructions that came with the bag, if you bought it new. Good luck!

I went to a purse party once and the lady hosting it said you can use baby wipes to get marks off of purses...not sure if it will work on ink but worth a shot.

I know that hair spray can work on clothes marked with ink, but I'm not sure if it will work the same on vinyl. Its probably worth a try. Just spray the hair spray onto a rag ,( Aquanet is what I've used ), and rub into the ink. You might have to repeat this several times. Good luck! L..

I've used hairspray to remove ink, but I'd DEFINITELY try it on an inconspicuous spot on the purse first to make sure it doesn't damage the vinyl. Also, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works GREAT for removing almost anything. I use it to clean leather tennis shoes all the time, and it gets them looking like new, takes off scuffs, dirt, anything really. But I'd caution you that it 'can' remove some finishes, so again, I'd try it on an inconspicuous part of the purse too...

Good luck! Let us know if you get it off without damaging your purse! How frustrating! :)

Usually ink is best removed with alcohol. Hair spray is often recommended, but it's because it has a high alcohol content.

Our daughter took a red ink pen to the light gray leather interior of our new car (it was a few days old). Some rubbing alcohol and some elbow grease took most of the stain out.

You may want to contact Burberry's customer service to see what they recommend based upon the material the bag is made of. I have a Burberry bag that is a composite material and cleans well with just about anything.

I know that rubbing alcohol removes ink pen marks from clothing, but not sure what it would do to vinyl. You could test a small inconspicuous area (the bottom of the purse?) first to see if it would be safe for the vinyl finish. If this won't work...google "removing ink pen from vinyl" and see what comes up. Good luck!

First, try baby wipes. If that doesn't work, try rubbing alcohol. If that does work, you might want to spray (and wipe down) with a little armor-all on the vinyl afterward to avoid the over-drying effects of the alcohol. However, if the alcohol doesn't work, next try a regular "white rubber eraser" (the brand I have here in my desk is the "Magic Rub" eraser by Sanford) -- not the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, which might be a little too rough on the vinyl surface. Last, if none of those options work, then maybe try to gently use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Good luck!

Have you tried "Goo Gone or DeSolvIt" both essentially the same thing, just try it on a hidden spot first to make sure. Works great on pen marks, crayons, lipstick, etc. Even takes sticky label residue off, but I use soapy water after to get rid of oily residue. Good luck.

Did it come with the ink stain, or did it happen when you were using it? If it came with it, you should return it and get a new one. If not checking with Burberry should be your first step. Do you have a local store that cleans/fixes shoes and purses? They might have an idea too. I work in Beverly Hills and Arturo's on Little Santa Monica fixes all sorts of designer shoes and purses. They're great and may have an idea how to clean the stain.

Good luck!

I just read a website about purses and these were some of the recommendations, but honestly, from what I have read it appears that the PVC coating on the outside absorbs inks and stains which means that now only do you have to be concerned about ink getting on it from pens, but dye transfer from your clothes brushing up against it. New denim seems to be the worst culprit.
Margaret's Cleaner-available on-line (recommend by a Nordstrom handbag sales person)
Soft toothbrush and mild soap or Shout wipes-from a person to person contact to Burberry
Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser-but the reports weren't good
The one thing you have to watch out for is keeping the ink from spreading and unfortunately with PVC that is very likely.
