You need to talk to a local PT and find out what their requirements are - call your state employment office and find out what is needed as well.

Being a Physical Therapist is hard work. The schooling required is long and hard...you need to know anatomy and physiology REALLY good. Sports medicine...etc. you can check out going to massage therapist school - it's a trade school- you might qualify for a grant - I don't know. but you can start there...

they will most likely teach you how to use the TENS unit, heat, ice, etc. and how joints work, etc.

Good luck!~

I am a PTA and love my job, I went to Washtenaw community college in ann arbor and highly recommend the program. It is a two year program plus your basic college classes. The wait list for all the pta programs are long, i waited almost two years to get in. Of course if you want to see what the job is like you can look at being an aide, or tech it is usually low paying job, but gets your foot in the door. The job market is huge and have daily offers for new job opportunity and was hired before i even took my state boards. There is no pta to pt program the classes dont transfer between each other. If you have any other questions feel free to message me. Good luck

There are two types of physical therapy assistant. One is the physical therapy aide, which is a shorter course requiring very few pre requisites, the other is a physical therapy assistant, which is a two year associates, and then you also need many pre requisites to even get onto the course. It is very competetive, but there are an abundance of jobs, its a great career. If you already have a bachelors degree, you can get your masters in PT onlne after you graduate as a PT assistant.
suppose it depends what you already have pre requisite wise, how long it will take you. If you are just now coming out of high school you will probably already have some of the pre reqs

I'd call your local community college. In Texas you have to have a two year associates degree and become licensed with the state for a PTA.It's not like some 12 week course where you get 'certified' .
