My 2 1/2 year old daughter is asking about my tampons and what they are for. I don't know how to answer her. I want to be honest but not overly explicit. If someone has an idea or advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I've always told my kids they are just something that ladies use sometimes. Just becareful you don't give her any information you would not want repeated. Remember kids at this age and into the preschool years especially love to say what they know. Inevitably they do it at the most embarassing moments. LOL

As a mom to 2 boys (ages 9 and 5) I have always told them if they were see one in my purse or ask about the dispensor machines in store bathrooms is that "It is makeup for mommies" :)

I would just say "they are something mommy sometimes uses in the bathroom, but don't worry mommy's fine" Don't offer more than she asks, the blood explaination may scare her. Usually once you answer the question they have at hand they are on to the next thing so just make it simple and she will probably be on to the next thing.

S.,

I think that you should say that every month you have a period and you need to use those in your private area. I would keep it as simple as possible. Most toddlers will be content with that sort of answer. I don't think I would explain about the blood-because she may think you are hurting. Good luck. Hopefully you will get a lot of good suggestions.

I have two children--6 year old boy, and 5 year old girl. Whenever they've asked me that question, either in the shopping aisle or after looking in my bathroom cabinet, I've said something like, "That's just some bathroom/potty things/stuff for ladies/big girls like mommy." It's satisfied them just fine so far. They haven't asked for anymore details, thank goodness! Your daughter at 2 1/2 probably doesn't really need details either. I usually answer those tricky questions as simply as possible, and only give more details as the kids ask for them, otherwise it's overwhelming for them.

Have you seen "She's The Man"? They are for bloody noises! Tell your daughter that they are something a women uses when they reach womenhood. ;) Good Luck
