How to Address Problem with Maid in West Plano

I have a maid that I adore. She does a great job, but I can not get her not to use water on my wooden floors...I have asked her 3 times....First time she said this is how we do with all my houses, She knows it will buckle and totally ruin the hand scraped floors....She'll not do it and then I guess forget and do it again...When I walk into the room the cloth on the duster is completely wet and the floor is entirely wet and there is too much product in the bottle for it to be just product...I'm pleased with all her other work, but I have a contemporary home with a lot of floor and I can't afford to have it ruined.....Since I'm being emotional at the moment, I can't get my thoughts straight.....How or do I address this again? Or find a new maid...? (a good one is hard to find)...ugggg...Please help me get my thoughts straight. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Not sure how big your house is or how much time you have to work 'with her', but what if she does all the other cleaning and you do the floors? You are right - your house should be taken care of the best way. Floors are espensive to begin with, but more expensive to fix later. See if that's an option, while she's doing the bathrooms, you are mopping the floors? Cut her pay accordingly though. And of course, talk to her about it before-hand. "I really want to keep you. You do a great job. But I really want to keep my floor looking it's best for years and years to come. I have read that using this much water on them is not good for them. So if you want, I'll do the floors while you do all the other stuff."

My only other suggestion would be to start looking for another maid.

Another thought: does SHE provide the product, or do you? If it's expensive and she's paying for it, perhaps she's diluting it so that it lasts longer. Maybe she's diluting it because it's too strong a smell for her to work with. Maybe she's diluting it because she always has, something her mom taught her a long time ago to help product last longer. Ask her why she refuses to do the floors the way you want. There could be a simple fix.

Another way to get your point across to her is to let her know that you will be deducting x amount of money every time she used water. That will get her attention...lol.

Personally, I am quite picky myself (like you) therefore, I make time to do my own cleaning my way and I don't have to worry about someone not doing it my way or breaking things.

It can be done, no not fun, but I manage to care for my 4000 sq ft just fine and maintain business and family.

If you've asked 3 times and she still isn't doing what you've asked, I would start looking for a new maid. She is providing a service, but isn't doing what you've asked her to do.

Show her. Ask her to do the floors first and physically walk her through. Ask her if she can do it this way. Tell her exactly what you told us. Tell her you love her work except for the floors and why. Flat out explain that you don't want to lose her but if she doesn't want to do it your way to please let you know so that you can part ways. Keep an eye on her until you are comfortable if she stays

I had my own cleaning business for a long time. And the one thing I did NOT EVER do is clean wooden floors with water!!! Thats a big no no. Find a product you want her use and tell her to use it if its a mix...prepare it yourself.. NO water it will warp your floors and ruin them. You should tell her nicely and if she refuses .....tell her this is her last day at your home. Or you can clean them yourself and deduct what you think and have her clean the rest of your home.

Well seeing as how you are employing her to do a job, you shouldn't look at this as an emotional thing. It's just business. First of all you need to sit down with her and tell her once more that if she uses water on your floors then you will have to find someone else because it's not in your budget to replace floors because she won't follow your instructions. Because the alternative is to sue her once your floors are messed up but that seems like an extremely exhausting thing to do. Or another thing you could so is just have her do all the other areas of your house and leave the floors to someone else. That seems to be a waste as well because you have to pay two cleaning companies to do something that the one should do but then again if it'll give you a peace of mind then it might be an option. Another thing you could do is leave a huge note attached to the floor or the fridge saying do not use water on the floor. If english is her native language then type it in english and if it's not then type the document in her native language so that she can understand.

What you have to do is weigh your pros and cons of this situation. Is keeping her worth paying another 10-15k on flooring or is finding someone who will follow your explicit directions more important? At the end of the day, you are paying her to do what you want her to do and if she can't follow that direction for everything then there are a few hundred other companies to choose from.
