6 weeks is usually the guideline. But as soon as you start feeling up to it you can start with power walking or any other aerobic exercise you feel comfortable with. You should definitely hold off on any strength training until at least the 6 week mark.

whenever your doc says okay. my doctor does a 4 week post deliver check and then gives me the okay but your doctor might do 6 weeks...I would definitly wait until she says its alright though because if you're not healed you could hemmorage(sp?) hope this helps!

I think it depends too on what your activity level was before giving birth. I also think that while you are still flowing, it is a good indication that your body is still trying to heal itself. There is a lot to be said though for taking walks and increasing length and intensity gradually. I think setting aside time for you to care for yourself by trying to keep a healthy lifestyle is very important even while you are recovering. Taking care of yourself should be one of your top priorities :)

Usually 4-6 weeks after delivery. However, I think it all really depends on what type of delivery you had and if there were any complications. I would just call and check with you doctor first. Your body has been through a lot and it needs some rest.

I am a personal trainer and have a few tips. Usually if you are feeling good depending on your level before pregnancy you should be able to walk or even power walk with baby/stroller in 2 weeks, consult docotor. Arm workouts are always good to start with. Just sitting on an exercise ball or chair and using 3-5# weights doing overhead presses, bicep curls, tricep kickbacks and bent over 2 arm rows for your back, this can be started soon since your lower body will be neutral. For legs, at this point, sitting on the ball or chair, you can do front leg lifts just to help out the quadraceps a little until you are ready for a more strenuous workout. I hope this helps.
Have fun with that baby!!!!

i would definately say consult you physician, he may say walking is ok when you can tolerate it but any heavy lifting may be a problem. Your 6 week check up will give your doctor more insight on how well your body has healed.

You can start exercising right now - kegel kegel kegel. Any other kind of exercise is going to put additional strain on pelvic floor muscles that are trying to heal. Those muscles hold your uterus and bladder up, but they aren't up to a lot of work right now. There are ligaments that also help hold your uterus and bladder up, but remember ligaments don't stretch. High impact activity - unless it's upside down - is going to increase gravity's pull and possible tear one of those ligaments. Once those ligaments are torn, the job "falls" to the pelvic floor muscles. And if they aren't up to it, then things fall even further.

Just google "uterine prolapse" for more info. There's a lot more information now than there was when I had mine 8 years ago

You usually have to wait until you have seen your doctor at your 6 week appointment. Don't push yourself too much! Your body just went through a lot and has to take time to heal.

That depends on if you had your child vaginally or by c-sec. I had a c-sec Aug. 22 and I had the go ahead to fitness walk at 2 weeks and full workout at 6 weeks. Ask your doctor and just make sure to listen to your body.

I always started taking walks at about 2 weeks, and more strenuous exercize about 5-6 weeks. Be careful not to overdo it. Your body needs to recover its been through a lot. Most of the weight will naturally come off if you just walk every day and stop eating for two!!

I believe it is the same as sex 4 to 6 weeks but I was always back to normal around the 3 or 4th week. It also depends if you had a c-section or natural and do you have stitches or not.

Most docs advise 6 weeks, but I got back to the gym after 6 days because I had continued to work out right up until the day before I delivered. I had a pretty bad episiotomy, so it was a little uncomfortable at first. I just focused on walking and light weights until I got my strength back up. A book that really helped with abs (I had diastasis - separation of the ab muscles) was called Lose Your Mummy Tummy that had several gentle exercises. Good Luck!

N.,
You can start to do small simple work outs now. Start out slow. walk a little and simple pilates or yoga exercises. I wouldn't recommend do crunches or anything like that yet. I waited the six weeks after I was cleared by my Dr. and started to do exercises on an exercise ball. As long as you can tell when you are doing too much. You have to know your own body I think to tell if what you are doing is too much. Go to babycenter.com and they have articles about working out after birth.
Hope that helps. Good Luck with your new baby.

your doctor would be the best person to answer that question, as he knows how your delivery went. there are certain things to consider such as do you have thin blood, or do you clot easy, was it natural, are you breastfeeding...... all of these things will effect how soon you can start to work out again.

Hey there,
I went back to work aftertwo weeks after having both of my girls. As long as you havent had a c-section, Im sure you'll be fine to go back when you want to.
