we have a 3.5 year-old and are wondering if she would enjoy fireworks yet...thus far, we have been reluctant to keep her up that late but, we'd be willing to make an exception if we thought she might have a great time...

My kids absolutely enjoyed the fireworks at that age and younger. But that doesn't mean all kids will. How is she with loud noises?

I'd say, bring her, make sure she understands what to expect, and have a quick escape route planned in case it scares her. And ear plugs are a great idea.

Greetings E.: As the mother of 5 let me say that we always have celebrated the Fourth of July in a big way. So all of our children started by the time they were 6 months to stay up , we just covered their ears so it was not to loud. Last year my 2 year old Granddaughter had the time of her life watching daddy set off things just for her. In fact by the end of the evening most of the neighborhood had gathered together so make it fun for all the children. This year we have a 4 month old that will be there.
Just keep it safe and enjoy the wonder of the beauty of it.
Enjoy parenthood it is the greatest thing you will ever do.

We took our grandson to Disneyland when he was 2 1/2 years old and he was very frightened by the fireworks. He heard the loud, booming noises first and that scared him and seeing the sky light up didn't help either. Your 3 1/2 year old may handle it better, but regardless, fireworks are larger than life and will make a big impression on a young one. I still remember the fireworks I saw when I was about 4 years old. I was scared at the time, but got over it as I got older.
