How Often Does Your 10 Month Old Nurse/take a Bottle?

I have a 10 month old son who is weaning himself. He only nurses 2 times a day now, morning and night. I can definitely tell he wants to nurse those times but the afternoon he is too busy playing to nurse. He might take one side but cries if I try to offer the other. He is very interested in solid food. He eats 2-3 containers a sitting and sometimes cries for more. At his 9 month check up he was nursing 3-4 times a day and the Dr. acted like that was "acceptable" but not necessarily the best. My thoughts are if they develop physically and mentally at different paces shouldn't the same be true for eating habits? My instincts say he is fine and I usually trust that but I just wanted some reasurance.

What can I do next?

My daughter is the same way. I don't nurse, but she is so interested in table food that she does not want a bottle. She only has a bottle 2-3 times a day....I am sure this is fine. I feel that as long I am providing fresh vegies and other good choices, she will get proper nutrition.....Have a good day!

The book that I am reading suggests weaning when it is right for you and/or the child. It also states that it is good for the child to nurse as long as he wants to. If you still enjoy it and he still does then I wouldn't worry about it.

My daughter takes 3-4 bottles a day depending on her mood. SHe is also very interested in solids. SHe has a bottle in the morning and at night. She will have another bottle late morning or mid-afternoon. Otherwise I give it to her in a sippy cup so she can swig on it while she plays. Her doctor said this was good since she was to busy to lay for a bottle.

Sounds like your son is doing fine. I have an 11 month old son, and he is down to nursing 3 times a day (soon to be 2). He nurses in the morning, at night, and at his dinnertime feeding. I give him a cup of formula with his lunchtime feeding and am about to start the same thing with his dinner. I have noticed with him that when I nurse he is spending less and less time. The natural progression away from nursing and toward food is normal.
