Hi, I am wondering how much to pay a babysitter who will watch our 1 year old. And, do I pay less if I am in the home working in my office and more if I am away from home? What do you pay your babysitters?

What can I do next?

We pay the same if the children are awake, $10/hr for 3 kids. $8/hr if they're asleep. Doesn't matter if we're there or not.

I would pay about five dollars an hour for one kid. But, it also depends on how old the babysitter is -- if he/she is in middle school or high school five dollars should be sufficient, but if they are in college I would up that by a buck or two. (: C.

M.,
Just have to tell you that you have an awesome name (it's my daughters and my moms name).
Anyway, babysitters, I usually go by experience and age. But I don't pay more than $5 per hour. Unless you are dealing with a nanny. Goodluck!

Hi M.! This isn't really the advice to your questions, but an addition from a babysitter. When the parents were home my job was much more difficult and I would have resented receiving less. Not that it is a bad thing (because us moms know how to care for the child best) but being told constantly how to better care for the child was frustrating. Just a side note! Good luck!
