How much do we pay a babysitter per hour to watch our kids for an evening out? I have two boys ages 7 & 5 and she will be with them for several hours in the evening while we are at a surprise party. She is a 14 year old girl that lives up the street from us. I asked her what she charges and her reply was "whatever, it really doesn't matter". I would like to pay her a fair amount but I am not sure what that is. Any help would be great. She will watch them from about 7pm - midnight. She will not have to feed them dinner and their bedtime will be between 8:30 and 9:00 and I will have jammies out for her. Thanks!!!!

We interviewed 5 girls from our local high school, all seniors, to bbsit our two boys (1 & 3). They ALL said they would bbsit for $5.00 an hour! I found that absurd, but thats what they all asked for. We've ended paying them $7-$10 per hour depending on how long the boys were actually awake with the sitter, etc.

I would pay her about 7.00 per hour since she will not being doing much. An older sister can easily get 10.00 per hour. I think it depends on where you live and what is normal for your area. good luck.

There are many options for you tell her that you will give her a flat rate of $20.00 or you can pay her $5.00-8.00 an hour. You may want to offer her an extra dollar an hour for any cleaning you want done. I used to babysit a lot and i would offer the clients cleaning services for an extra dollar and hour eg; every chore was considered to take a half hour unless it was a large chore. I charged $3.00 pers child per hour( that was 9in the 80's though and I was very interactive with the children)
Some people charge different amounts for awake and asleep. There are many options.

I pay my 15 year old babysitter $7 per hour for an evening out. I do not leave her a list of chores, but she is great about picking up toys and putting dishes in the dishwasher. I do not expect much from her; I want my son to feel comfortable with this 'playdate' sitter so that we can go out more often.

I usually pay sitters $8-$10 per hour for my little ones, ages 1 and 2. I would think $8 would be fair, since it still involves her time and effort!!

A 14 year old babysitting two older kids, I would think somewhere between $6 and 8 per hour would be appropriate. I pay my grad student babysitter $12 per hour for two not-potty-trained 2 year olds and a 5 year old, and she also does a fair amount of housework for us and finds us substitutes when she has other committments. Good luck!

When our sitter was that age we paid her $7.00 an hour for two children, we had to go and pick her up and take her home. Now that she is 16 and can drive herself, YEAH!! we have upped that to $10.00 an hour for two.
Hopefully that helps T.
