Hi guys! My inlaws have always watched my kids since they were babies and they are going out of town this weekend and so is my husband. I have to go to a training all morning and most of the afternoon so I'm getting a babysitter to watch my kids,(7) and (5). A friend recommended a girl- she's 14. So, about how much do most of you pay babysitters/hour? She's not old enough to drive so I guess they just will hang out and play at home all day- any suggestions? I'm feeling like a new mom all over again! :)I need to clean up if she's going to be here all day!

What can I do next?

Thanks everybody! I went with $10. Wow, that adds up when it's all day! I'm glad my inlaws are around most of the time!

Hi,

My daughter just took the "Safe Sitter" class offered by the Rowlett Fire Department a few weeks ago. We use to live in Waterview in Rowlett for 4 years. We now live in Rockwall and my daughter is interested in babysitting if you ever need a babysitter.

She is charging $5 to $7 an hour. She is not available this Saturday but if you are needing a babysitter in the future let us know.

I have a 14 yr old. We still have her favorite high schooler come over once a week because she also helps with homework, great mentor, etc. If we are only going to be gone a couple of hours, we leave daughter home with a friend or alone to watch the dogs, and pay daughter.

I guarantee a sitter $40 no matter what (meaning if I cancel, or just stay out an hour or so) because she blocked off her night for me. After about 3 hours, I start adding $10 and hour to what I will pay her (CASH). Typically a night for us is anywhere from minumum $60 to $80 for the night.

My daughter does babysit for some neighbors and she has been paid $10 and hour. This is for 1 family with twin 4 yr old girls and a 9 yr old and another family has 3 girls 6, 4, and 3.

At 14, it sounds like they will be hanging out and playing at your home. Make sure to specify if cooking is off limits. My daughter LOVES the kitchen (just like me)!

My daughter has done a little babysitting she's 13, it was just after school for a 5 yr old for 1-2 hrs, this past spring, anyway, she asked for $5/hr. I told her later I thought that was too low.
I would ask what they charge other families. I know back in the old days when I babysat, I just enjoy watching the kids, this one family paid me pretty good, while others, I didn't want to break them, I usually got around $15-20/for the night, for 2 grade school kids for about 6+ hours.

I have a 14 year old babysitter that I use who told me upfront that she charges $5/hr for one child and an additional dollar per hour per kid. Even though she told me that, I still usually pay her about $8/hr. for my two kids because she can usually come over last minute. We also use a 24 year old occasionally and she charges $15/hr. Obviously we prefer to use the 14 year old because she's half-price, but we have found we get what we ask for - the older one is better at putting the kids to bed, having them pick up their toys, putting away any dishes she uses, etc. And she can drive herself to/from our house.

I asked the same question a few months ago and the overwhelming response was $10 an hour. My niece is 14 and that is how much she is typically paid as well.
