How Much to Feed My 8 Month Old?

I am just curious if there are any written guidelines as to how much I should be feeding my daughter? I feel like she eats sooo much!
She was average size when born at 7 pounds 6 ounces and 20 inches.
She is now 8 months old and about 20 pounds and 30 inches...a BIG girl :) Her growth has been consistent and my doctor says she is not overweight (weight is always about 85%, height has been over 100%)
I just don't know how much I should be feeding her.
Her schedule is:
6am - gets up and nurses
9:30am - drinks every drop of a 6 ounce bottle
11:00am - lunch, usually a 4 oz Yobaby yogurt and 1/2 a 4 ounce jar of something fruity
2:30 or 3:00pm - nurses, but eats less than at other times of the day
5pm - dinner, cereal (2 ounces water and about 4 tablespoons dry cereal mix), and a 4 ounce jar of something veggie
6:30 or 7:00 - bedtime, nurses
She sleeps straight through the night, so there is no nighttime feeding.
Does this sound like a lot of food??
We never force her to finish her food, but she almost always cleans the plate.
When I asked my doctor he said simply "she'll stop when she's full, babies don't overeat"
Does this mean when she finishes her food I should offer more?
I can't imagine she could possibly fit any more food in her belly :) The bowl I prepare looks soooo big!
She LOVES everything, BTW, and has not refused anything (avacado once, but she likes it now). Is it possible even for a baby to overeat because they just really like food?
Thanks so much for any advice :)

What can I do next?

I agree with the doctor...she's right on track growing evenly, doesn't seem to be any problem, so she won't overeat. Looks like from what you said, she eats pretty average. More liquids in the morning and more solids in the afternoon it looks like, but it looks like pretty normal amounts to me. Looks like you are all doing well. Feel blessed that she is such a good eater!! Especially with all the variety...that's great!!! Sounds like you all are doing really well! Try not to worry too much about it and let her eat as much as she seems to want as you provide the healthy food. If she's not getting hungry between the feedings, then I'm sure she's eating plenty, but if she seems to get hungry before the next meal, sure offer her more. I sure wish I still had that ability to know just what I need without overeating like babies do!!! :) It's an amazing thing when you think about it! Anyway, best wishes to you!

Sounds like what my 7-month-old daughter eats, except mine also has an additional 6-ounce bottle when she wakes from her morning nap about 11:30am. Our schedule for eating is:
8am - 6 oz bottle, then a step three jar of baby food
11:30am - 6 oz bottle, baby food
3:30pm - 6 oz bottle
5pm - baby food
6pm - 6 oz bottle

We're starting to give up the afternoon bottle, but she's not there quite yet. We're also adding Cherrios and other finger foods.

Your daughter sounds completely normal to me.

My other two, older kids are very picky, so your daughter sounds like a dream!!

Enjoy!

she sounds very healthy to me. You would know if she was overweight. She would not be rolling over having difficulty moving around ect... Some babies just eat and grow fast. my oldest was 30lbs at one and was wearing a 3T now he is 8 and wearing an 8 he finally slowed down and is not towering over his friends. He has always been very tall for his age. Now I think if you tried you could look right through him he is so thin.

That doesn't sound like too much food to me. My first two kids were eating table food 3 meals a day at 9 months. Plus they nursed, and got finger food snacks in between. My kids are skinny, like their daddy, weights in the 25% percentiles, and always ate a lot - especially my oldest son. Now, I have an almost five month old who is consistently eating 1/3 cup of cereal with a stage one jar of veggies at lunch and a 1/3 cup of cereal at dinner. When we finish up veggies today, he will start on cereal and fruit in the morning too. Plus he nurses throughout the day, and still wakes once in the night.

As long as you don't force them to eat food, they will let you know when they are full. You might want to give your daughter a more solid breakfast, and add some table food to her diet - she will have to get there eventually. Try not to worry about her weight or how much she is eating. They go through spurts and when she is a toddler, you may be wishing for these days of eating everything!

Good luck,
J.

The baby will set the limits, and is just growing. I'd be concerned if the baby is over-eating because you're pushing unhealthy stuff, but that's not the case. It's not possible for a baby to overeat, but if the parents attempt to control the food (pushing or withholding it), then it can start to tinker with how the child sees food. I think enough of us have food issues as it is!

As long as the food is healthy and nutritious, let her set the pace. Trust me: there will be a point where the eating will slow down to a "normal" pace, and you'll get frantic that she's not eating enough and start trying to push it. Our 4yo girl is in the 95% range for height and weight, and has a great appetite - carrots, peas, apples, bananas, broccoli. Relish this time!
