Can you contact the oil company that would deliver to you? They would know how long a certain number of gallons should last.
We get our oil from a locally owned cooperative and they don't require a contract.
Good luck!
I rent a 2 bedroom cottage and need to order oil today...how much do you order when you do? Is there a certain amt of gallons that gets you through a certain at of time? I am not looking to start a contract because I'd have to pay for aug-dec.
Thanks , when I had my house it was bigger and I was on a plan and I didnt track it really, so I'm clueless
i dont think i could afford to fill the whole tank...arent tanks ussually 275 gallons and at 3.6 a gallon it would be 1000 to fill it
thanks Andrea Prefect info, I had to order a minimum of 150---552 bucks down the drain=( i guess not really...but gosh I can't afford that=( although its needed. I think i'm gonna do the same space heaters and set to 60-65
Thanks!

Call the local company and see if they require a specific amount to be brought out. They do not let ours go below 20% but also do not fill over 60%...but they come out as needed and check it and when it's time - they fill it. It's usually between $400-$600 each time.
Each home will be different, depending how well it is insulated and how low or high you keep the temp. My home is 980 square feet and we usually go thru a tank which ours is 275 gallons plus another few gallons depending on the winter. I am in the Pittsburgh region. This year we wont go thru as much due to the warmer start to the winter and I have my thermostat set to 65 with a couple electric heaters going the same time.
Usually the min. order is 100 gallons and you get a discount if you order 200 or more gallons.
I don't have oil heat, but we were able to save a lot of money this year on heating by turning the thermostat down to 62 during the day, you could go lower if you're not home, and 58 at night. I'm thinking of going even lower at night. We all wear warm PJs and have big fluffy comforters and are not cold at night. We're in NJ and it's been a pretty warm winter so far, but there have been some cold nights and we've been fine. We started doing this last winter and saved about $400 this year.
id J. order and fill your tank up to start out and then if you need to re order then you do if not great
