$5-7. The cost for me depends more on if it is snowing, raining, how lazy I am feeling and then lastly how quick the food is delivered. The amount of food and what the total cost on the order has nothing to do with what I tip.
As I paid for the pizza tonight, I realized that I tip the same amount that I did in 1991. How much do you tip the pizza person?
$1.00? $2.00? 10%? Just wondering.

At least $5, they are using their own car and gas. It is wear and tear on their car.
I tip more if the weather is bad.
I usually tip $5 just sort of across the board. Our order is between $20-$40... so it's decent. 10-25% depending on the night.
I was all leg brace & arm in a sling (aka couldn't drive) earlier this year... and I'd tip the driver $20 on top of the cost if they'd do a quick grocery run for me! I became a very coveted house to deliver to, come to find. I felt AWFUL asking the first go 'round... but quickly learned drivers started doing rock paper scissors when my call came in to see who would get to come to my house!!! LOL.... I've never seen a group of people so sad when I got better!
Wow, I have to admit some of you seem really cheap. I tip $5 at least, I mean after all he is bringing the food right to your door!
Jason's Deli, Chinese, or a pizza, I tip $5-7. If they're delivering for a party though (several pizzas and maybe a soda), OR if it's crummy weather, I give them $10 for their trouble and for my gratitude of not having to get dressed and out in it.
I am a firm believer in the "if you can't afford the tip, you have no business eating out" mentality. We don't eat out too often, but this is their job, people. I would be ASHAMED to tip the way some on this post said. 10% in a restaurant if your water was refilled? Gross.
My son used to deliver pizzas for Dominoes. He had to use his own car and it wore out the brakes and transmission and tires really fast. He was paid $5 for each delivery, so tips were a big deal. People prank call and give addresses for people who dont want the pizza, or arent even home. The driver has to take that pizza where ever he can and get as much money as possible and get back to the restaurant to get the next delivery. We had to "eat" a few pizzas and give a few bucks when this happend to him. He did learn fast tho, that when he had a fake delivery, to just head to the nearest bar and sell them for big bucks to half drunk guys. (He did say at 17 it was his first time in a bar,,lol)The tips were few and far between but they did know who would pay well and hoped thier name came up on the list next when that call came in. The worst was when the high school ordered 15 pizzas for the friday party days and hed have to load all of them and carry them all in, and they never tipped at all. When I order food delivered, I usually give $5 no matter what my bill is. My house is easy to find, lit up at night and I usually stand by the window and flag them down as they come up the street so they dont have to hunt for the address in the dark.
I normally give 2 dollars.
20% Service to the front door is just as good or better than service in the restaurant. Besides, these poor guys have to tear up their own vehicles to get us our pizza, unless it is dominos.
I tip the delivery guy (pizza or something else) around $4 or $5.
Once by accident gave him $20!
Last month I order a pizza, and then I notice I have not bills for tip, I pick all my quarters to add $4.
When he came I apologize because I didn't have any bills and all I had was coins. He smile and said he was very thankful, because many people on my street didn't even tip at all....I wonder who they were but didn't ask, lol.
20-30% or $3.00 for one pizza and $5.00 for two pizzas.
If we are getting Domino's and paying under $20 then I tip a couple of bucks. If it is more like $20 and higher then I might tip $3-$4. I only tip 10%-15% if I am sitting inside the restaurant and the server did a good job keeping my water cup filled.
Same as Sue. 20 to 30%.
$4-$5 per delivery.
Usually we pick up though.
I tip $3-$4 for pizza.
$4 or $5. My bill is always under $20.
usually $4 or $5. I am tipping for him driving all the way to my house and up to the door. We have a great kid who delivers for us. He's worth it.
We live in a rural community and my SO used to run a pizza place and my son used to deliver as well.
To answer your question, they get paid by the delivery at most places (and that's somewhere in the lines of $3 a delivery). Even if you have to pay a delivery fee (which they added a $1 or $2 for out in the country deliveries) that didn't go to the driver, but to the business.
So to have someone drive out in the middle of no where for your Large Pizza and small salad costing $14.20 and you simply saying "keep the change" is not only an insult, but will in future, make you pizza late the next time.
We tip $5 as a standard which would give them $8 for that one delivery and that is average.
Cheers.
usually 15% of bill.
Minimum $5 for gas, or 20% of bill, whichever is more. I add more if it's cold or rainy, because they've kept me from having to get out in the nasty weather.
10-20% depending on the order and the weather. I always tip a minimum of 20% in a restaurant, unless the service is really bad.
I would give no less than 20 % (which should be around $ 5.00) or more on a nasty weather night or day. As for people who give only 10 % to 15% at a restaurant because "the server did a good job keeping my water cup filled", keep in mind a server only makes about $ 2.50 cents an hour and the rest is tips. So, if you do not tip the server well if they give you good service, they can work all day on their feet for a mere $ 35.00. Think about that the next time you order a $ 50.00 meal and give a whopping $ 5.00 for a tip.
