How Much Milk for a 16 Month Old?

Hi Moms,
I was wondering if anyone knows about how much milk a 16 month old should be getting per day. She has been having 3 sippy cups full a day so it about equaled out to around 24 oz, but in the last month or so, she really isn't interested in drinking all three of those. I have been considering cutting out her afternoon milk and just giving her milk in the morning and at night. Any thoughts?

Too much milk can cause anemia. At this age, it's a beverage, not a food source. Just offer it at mealtime and don't worry about how much she drinks. She should drink anywhere from 12-16oz a day.

My doc said no more than 3 cups per day. I think he idea is they should be gettin calories/calcium from other sources. I just went though my son refusing milk after we took the bottle away - another mom pointed out milk is really just another beverage at this point as long as they are getting enough calcium from other sources.

Cow milk is not a requirement for anyone. Many cultures never drink it at all.

Our Dr. told us as long as they are getting 12 ounces of whole milk they will be fine. Mine usually drinks between 2 and 3 six ounce cups. He still eats plenty of food so we haven't cut out his lunch cup, but we did with our oldest and he was just fine.

Hi K.,
Our Dr. said not to worry about how much "milk" they drink, watch how much Dairy they have. Try giving her yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, etc to make up the difference. It worked GREAT for my daughter!
