How Much Milk Does a 15 Month Old Baby Need?

My daughter is 15 mos and has weaned herself -she just got bored with the majority of her daytime feedings so they have been dropped. I still nurse her in the morning and before going to bed. However, I am concerned she is not getting "enough" milk because she does not really enjoy whole milk. She drinks about 2-4 ounces of whole milk during lunch and a serving of yogurt and cheese throughout the day. When I try to nurse, she is just not into it anymore. I read they are supposed to be getting 16 oz total and not sure she is getting this much? She is on the tinier side...

What can I do next?

I have the exact same problem!! My daughter refuses whole milk. I can barely get her to drink 2oz a day! There are days that she will drink 4oz but it's really random... I've even tried soy milk, rice milk and she rejects them. Have you tried giving it to her in a sippy cup? bottle? cup? Does any of them help?? I am about to contact her pediatrician. But from what I've read, you can give her yogurt and cheese instead. We give her 4oz of milk mixed with oatmeal cereal (am), yogurt (noontime) and cheese throughout the day. I'm also nursing her first thing in the morning and before dinner. I actually want to wean her by haven't since she hasn't taken to the whole milk. Another person told me that since I'm still nursing her she may be rejecting the whole milk b/c she knows she can get the breastmilk.. So if I stop nursing her she will figure it out and will start drinking whole milk. I'm sort of afraid to try it. Sorry if this isn't helping you but I just want to let you know that I'm in a similar situation as you and as long as you continue to offer her milk and give her yogurt and cheese (which sounds like you are doing) then she will eventually come around.. Good luck!

First, I would ask your pediatrician's advice nurse. Based on your daughter's size, she just may not need as much as a heavier baby.
Second, yogurt and cheese are great sources of calcium and fat, if those are the things you are concerned with. If you think she should be getting more calcium, try broccoli or calcium enriched juice.
Third, if she is tiny, but proportional, lucky her. I wish I had that problem :)

She needs 16 oz of milk and milk products. This includes nursing, whole milk and yogurt/cheese etc.

We had the same issue with our son at that age (he's just a few months older), and eventually stopped worrying about it, due in part to the responses I got here. He eats yogurt and cheese, and we'll get whole milk into his cereal, but he has no interest in drinking it (or soy, rice or expressed breast milk when we had it) straight. If you're worried, talk to your pediatrician, of course, but if she's healthy, she might well be getting what she needs from the rest of her solid and liquid intake. Good luck!
