Hi,
My 14-month-old has finally started drinking cow's milk in addition to nursing.
How much milk should I be giving her a day?
I started by giving her 6oz twice a day and it seems that she would like more.
She is still nursing four or five times a day.

What can I do next?

My daughter is 17 months and drinks about 12-18 ounces of almond or cows milk/day in addition to her meals. I prefer to give her a meal first, then offer the milk about 30-60 minutes later. She is down to 2-3 nursings a day. It seems like you are on the right track and listening to your instincts is the best thing to do.

My understanding was you should wait until babies are a year old before giving them cow's milk.

Here's a link to a great article on the subject.

Maybe you could supplement with formula instead of milk or maybe give her more solid foods and water in addition to breastmilk? As it says in the article, ask your doctor if you do choose to continue to give her cow's milk.

Take care,
T.

At this age, if she is still nursing I would ask the doctor. But, it wouldn't hurt to just offer it with meals, and see how it goes.

My son was still on formula/BM until he was about 18 months old and we only gave him milk at meals. He liked it, but it wasn't his soul source of calories so the Pedi said it was okay to do.

Good Luck!

They actually don't need any cow milk, especially with all the hormones... just keep breastfeeding, give water if you want.
