How much should one tip to hotel maids? If staying more than one day, do you tip per day or consider all days and tip on the last day? Should I also consider that these workers are probably working on min. wage and have families to feed?
Thanks to all of you. I will now consider tipping daily just because of the fact that was pointed out that we may not get the same maid, especially with the weekend/weekday shift.

It's so nice that you consider this in your plans. I believe most of these workers rely heavily on tips. The $2-5 dollar range is good, and should depend on whether you are traveling alone or with the children.
If you are in a hotel, there is a chance you might not have the same maid during the week as you do on the weekend, so take that into consideration when deciding whether or not to tip daily.

Good for you for thinking of this! So many people don't. I'd rather tip the maid than the bellman...
I always tip $2 per day. More if we've made a real mess.
Tip each day as the same people do not work the same rooms
every day. $5 per day would be acceptable for most hotels. In higher end hotels where there is so much more to do, $7-8 would be great. If you tip well on the first day, you will also get even better service throughout your stay.
I tip the hotel maid $5 per day. Bell boy $2. They definitely depend on this money. Also tip the cab driver!

Tip every day as you may not have the same maid everyday. I usually tip $3 a day at a modest hotel. Upscale hotel I would tip $5 a day. I think the maids are the most underpaid employees in the hotel and their work is very hard on them.

That is a tough one. I have been on cruises and there you tip per day at the end. I think that would be the most appropriate, tipping a dollar or two per day and also considering the service. Sometimes they are worth more. Have a great trip, hope t his helps.
